Const. Jennifer Sidhu says there were other "things" found in the area that could have been used in the incident.

Paramedics say they're assessing two other patients, but couldn't provide details on their age, gender or condition.
Ragu Sangaramoorthy, who lives in the area, said he arrived home from work to see his street taped off. His kids were in the back seat.
"Oh my God, in front of where my kids play? . . . I'm scared now. These were human beings."

Awful. I recall several crossbow deaths in the US. Maybe these injuries & deaths are more common in Canada?

From dotr's above link to news: http://www.thespec.com/news-story/68...to-s-east-end/
"Previous incidents of violence in Canada involving a crossbow
    • In December 2010, 24-year-old Zhou Fang shot his father in the back with a crossbow then crushed his skill with a hammer, at a public library in Toronto's east end.
    • In July, a Mission, B.C., father was charged with attacking his son who was shot in the forearm with a crossbow.
    • In November 2007, a 26-year-old man was charged with murder and attempted murder after his mother was killed and father was injured by a crossbow in St-Cesaire, Que.
    • In October 2002, a dairy farmer was shot in the back and injured with a crossbow in St.-Bonaventure.
    • In August 1998, a man asleep in his Hamilton home was shot in the head and injured by a man who fired a crossbow.
    • In 1998, Edward Stuart Walker shot a pregnant Stephanie Celestine Thomas with a crossbow, then stabbed her 46 times in Central Saanich on Vancouver Island.
    • In September 1994, Yvon Gosselin was driven to a gravel pit near Terrace, B.C., where he was killed with two bolts from a crossbow.
    • In May 1995, a man armed with a crossbow entered the Winnipeg Convention Centre shortly before then-prime minister Jean Chrétien arrived to deliver a speech. The suspect was arrested.
    • In January 1993, B.C. Institute of Technology student Silvia Leung, 22, bled to death in the campus parking lot in Burnaby after being hit in the shoulder by a crossbow.
    • In November 1991, Ottawa lawyer Patricia Allen was killed with a crossbow by her estranged husband Colin McGregor."

    Canada, Crossbow Purchase & Ownership.

"In Canada, it is legal to own a crossbow and has a similar designation as an airgun. Weapons of a projectile velocity under 500 FPS may be owned by any person 18 years of age or older. No licence is required to purchase a crossbow. Though older PAL cards say that one is allowed to acquire one, the laws designating them as firearms were struck down before they could be implemented. Crossbows designed to be fired with one hand and crossbows measuring less than 500 mm in length are prohibited.(Canadian Firearms Program FAQ).
Hunting in Canada is regulated at the provincial level, therefore the legality of crossbow hunting vary from province to province."
    ^ from https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Laws_on_crossbows

Seems unlikely imo these shootings could have been any type of 'hunting accident.'

Canadian Firearms Program FAQ takes us to http://www.rcmp-grc.gc.ca/cfp-pcaf/faq/index-eng.html
{{ETA - struck sentence. Now adding this from ^ link:
"Q5. Do the licensing and registration requirements apply to bows?
A5. Crossbows that can be aimed and fired with one hand and crossbows with an overall length of 500 mm or less are prohibited. You cannot lawfully possess or acquire a prohibited crossbow.
You do not need a valid licence or registration certificate to possess any other type of bow, including a crossbow that is longer than 500 mm and that requires the use of both hands. Criminal Code provisions making it an offence to acquire a crossbow without a valid licence were never brought into force.
If you plan to use a bow to hunt, please check provincial hunting regulations for information on hunting licence requirements and restrictions that may apply to the use of bows. For example, some provinces do not allow crossbows for hunting." <--bbm

    I wonder if the crossbow used was a prohibited weapon. }}

Fatal crossbow incident in east-end Toronto linked to suspicious package downtown: police
Carbone said the investigation was also linked to a suspicious package investigation at a Queens Quay condominium, which was evacuated due to safety concerns and declared safe at 5 p.m.

“There is a link to that other crime scene at Queens Quay my understanding to date is that it’s been cleared at this point,” Carbone told reporters.
“We will follow up with the officers at 14 Division and if that information becomes relevant and there’s a reason for us to release that information to the media we will make it available.”
Police said the building, which is near a building housing a daycare, was evacuated after a package was found on an unspecified floor after a call came in just after 2 p.m.

Horrendous. It has been a long, hot and unusually lethal summer here in TO. Hopefully an anomalous one also.

He is the shooter. LE have not released the names of the victims. However the Toronto Sun is saying that it was a 'domestic dispute'.

The man who survived the attack, believed to be one of four brothers, is recovering in hospital. It appears two of his brothers are dead and the fourth is charged with killing them, along with their mother. Property records show the bungalow where the incident happened is listed in the name of Susan Ryan. She previously co-owned the home with William Ryan, who records show died last year.
Brett Ryan, 35, of Toronto, appeared in court on Friday. He is charged with three counts of first-degree murder. The names of the victims have not been released. Ryan will remain in custody until his next court appearance on Sept. 2.

A total of three homes were being examined as part of the investigation on Thursday.

Later in the afternoon on Thursday, police headed to a condo tower at 218 Queens Quay on the Harbourfront to secure a suspicious package.
Supt. Bill Neadles said there was a link between the deaths and the package found in a unit on the 14th floor of the condo tower, but would not specify the nature of the link.
Police confirmed on Friday that Ryan was arrested in June 2008 in relation to 14 bank robberies committed throughout Toronto and Durham Region.

He was dubbed the “fake beard bandit” at the time for apparently wearing a fake beard during each robbery.
Police said he was sentenced in Jan. 2009 to three years and nine months in prison.
