    ID - Grangeville, WhtMale UP7538, 35-55, Red/Blond Hair, Wire Glasses, Sep'84

    https://identifyus.org/cases/7538

NamUS Case with lots of pictures and a male who looks distinctive (even though much older than 35, could that be the time back then?).
His clothes look too nice for him to be a transient I would think.

Anyone has a idea? Date of Death is around two years prior.

Should be enough there for a match?

At the time, lots of Air Force activity in Montana, missile bases. IDK about the Army, would the shoes have been used in the Air Force as well?

Sometimes people still end up in the military when they have little family support after high school? Maybe no one is looking for him?

James Schroeder went missing while hunting with 2 others near Grangeville, ID in 1982. He was much younger than the UID is suspected to be and a bit taller. However, the timeline matches and he did have sandy blonde hair. Not sure about glasses.

According to this issue of the Lewiston Tribune (page 23), Schroeder was last seen 50 miles from where these remains were located.

The article does mention a better possibility: Steven Pearsall. He was former USAF (matches the clothing to an extent) and did wear glasses. His face somewhat resembles the UID. He was 35 when he went missing.

There's quite a bit written about Pearsall since he went missing the same night and place where two teens also went missing (subsequently, found dead in a canyon a couple years later). There's quite a bit written about Pearsall's case. His height is off and I'd think the UIDs height would have been measured against the pants, too. But perhaps not. Pearsall was initially thought to be a suspect and then later thought to have been a possible victim (wrong place/wrong time witness).

Ha, thanks guys for the good two tips!!

The detective working on the case has been super nice and we have been writing a bit (the contact was due to another case).
He really believes that web sleuths can make a difference, therefore he gave more pictures which i am allowed to share here to help
    us.

The pictures are off cigarette papers found with the deceased, so far he was unable to figure out from what date they were produced and where
they were distributed. Please find them below, so if any one has a guess to impress him:

Pearsall is a rule- out on NAMUS
Six-year-old Shannon Sherrill disappeared from her front yard in Thorntown, Indiana in October, 1986. Someone knows where she is......

Two years too young and two inches too short. The story on doenet is strange, though. I don't find it odd that he'd be so far away from FLA under those circumstances.

The estimated time of death for the UP is 1982-83, so it's unlikely to be someone who was alive as recently as a week earlier. They both have DNA and dentals, so it should be a pretty straightforward comparison, so there's probably no harm in calling it in. Marvin isn't on the ruleout list for the UP.

Could this be Benjamin Franklin Gray? He went missing from Montrose, Colorado in 1978. He was in debt at the time. Between Grangeville and the Montana border would be an ideal place to live off the grid undetected. I'm still a little unsure about the circumstances but the demographics fit.

The nose is a little different but the circumstances for John Kelly Gentry could also fit. He was wanted for homicides in Michigan and Ohio. His family received postcards from him postmarked in CA in 1983. He could have passed through Calumet City, IL on his way west. https://www.findthemissing.org/en/cases/29823/14

Benjamin Franklin Gray can be ruled out because he has dentures and I confirmed that the UID "Mr. Bones" did not although he had a bridge. Here is an article with a lot of good details about the case: http://www.idahocountyfreepress.com/...0-year-old-ca/
