'I'm not going to stop searching': Parents of missing woman issue plea
Christine Wood, 21, missing for nearly a week

It’s been nearly a week and 21-year-old Christine Wood is still missing.
Wood was last seen in the downtown area on Aug. 20. Her mother, Melinda Wood, is asking anyone with information to come forward.
The Wood family is from Oxford House and arrived in Winnipeg last week for a medical appointment.
Wood said Christine left for Winnipeg two days before she did.
Wood’s husband joined her in Winnipeg two days after she arrived.
The family is staying at a hotel near the airport and intended to head home on Sunday.

"As people head into the long weekend, we are asking them to keep Christine at top of mind. We need the public to help us find her," said Christy Dzikowicz, the organization's director of missing children services.
"Any information, no matter how small, could be that piece of information that helps bring her home to her family."

Wood vanished in Winnipeg while accompanying a family member to a medical appointment in the city. She left their downtown hotel Aug. 19 in the evening and never returned.
The young woman attended the University of Winnipeg and is familiar with the city, said her family.

It's unfortunate that the only information that the family can provide is that they were staying at a hotel, and she went "out". It seems that no one has any idea of what she was going to do when she went out.

Finally some information is released:

"According to her parents, Christine was familiar with downtown Winnipeg. She had lived in the city for more than two years while she was in school as a business administration student at the University of Winnipeg. Christine had arrived in Winnipeg two weeks earlier than her parents and had been staying with a boyfriend.

On Aug. 19, the day she disappeared, Christine and her mother spent a nice day shopping together downtown. Later that day, the Woods watched Christine get ready for a night out in the city while they stayed at a Days Inn hotel. George and Melinda haven’t seen or heard from their daughter since that night.
...

Const. Jason Michalyshen with the Winnipeg Police Service said they have been receiving a lot of credible tips from the public.
“Investigators are moving forward with those tips,” he said. “They've been helpful, but the bottom line is we have not been able to reunite Christine with her family.”"

I'm interested to know more about the medical appointment. My speculation is perhaps Christine was having mental health issues and her parents came to town to get her help, and so she took off? I could very well be wrong.

Of the multiple articles there is a conflicting story. One says, "he told her parents she was going out for the evening and never returned." http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/police-still-looking-for-christine-wood-393826311.html
while another says the parents went out to a store and when they returned, she was gone.

Yes, if she told her parents that, they should have been informed with who and how?

Nevertheless, there have been some recent apparent sightings: http://www.winnipegfreepress.com/local/woman-spotted-three-times-392970801.html

I suspect they'd have flown in from Oxford House and she used it as a chance to get away since it is so far from Winnipeg. Maybe her parents disagreed with her going back to school, etc. Maybe they had a fight. The father's sentence saying although she is 21 she still their daughter, sounds like repeating a conversation she might have had with them about her being 21 and has a right to decide for herself what she wants. Just speculating.

That being said, near the airport and in a fairly sketchy area (I lived in Winnipeg for several years), can be concerning. Let's hope she's find and lets them know she's okay and for them to go back home... type of thing.

Winnipeg police have charged Brett Overby, 30, with second-degree murder in the death of Christine Wood. (Instagram)

On March 21, investigators spent several days at Overby's home in the 300 block of Burrows Avenue. One neighbour said the identification unit removed a number of items including two interior doors before leaving the scene.
According to court documents, Overby was arrested on March 24 and charged with assaulting a former girlfriend between 2011 and 2016.
It's not yet clear what led officers to the man's North End home, or how he's connected to Wood

"I never met Christine personally but I've been spending a lot of time over the past seven and a half months thinking about her," he said Saturday.

Favel said Wood's mother Melinda phoned him Friday night to say her daughter had been killed.

"To have this be the outcome is obviously — it's not what we were hoping for ... and we feel for the family," Favel said.

Wonder how her mother found out... How horrible to have what happen to Christine but to be the one to tell the detectives what happened to your child and not the other way around..

I don't think she told the cops. In the first article it said she was asked for a DNA sample...I'd imagine that the police told her what they found in Overby's house that would require genetic testing for an ID. So sad!

...Officers were called to the Rural Municipality of Springfield just after 10 a.m. Thursday after a farmer checking on his canola crops noticed a partially uncovered hole that looked like it had been dug up or uncovered by an animal, a source told CBC on Friday.

The decomposed remains were found inside the shallow grave located in a ditch off Spruce Road, south of Highway 15.
