Police in Texas are responding to an armed suspect who is believed to have been holding a baby hostage at Baylor Scott & White Medical Center in Waxahachie, officials and witnesses say. Only few details were immediately available. (more)

The incident began at around 6:45 p.m. CT on Saturday when police received reports that a suspect with a gun was inside the hospital's emergency room. Witnesses reported that the suspect held the gun to a baby's head, but it is believed the hostage has since been released.

Journalist Allison Harris reported that the suspect himself remains inside the emergency room and is threatening to take his own life.

The 33-year-old former soldier who served in Iraq was charged with one count of making a terroristic threat, one count of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, and one count of trying to take a gun from an officer.

According to a witness, he calmly told the 20-25 people inside to leave immediately
