The father of 4-year-old Amarrah C. Reynolds, who was beaten to death Aug. 31 in her Decatur home, is facing a prison sentence of 20 years to life, after he was arraigned Thursday on two counts of first-degree murder.

(...)

The child's mother, Dalvon Taylor, 26, is scheduled to be arraigned today on one count of endangering the life or health of a child, punishable by a sentence of two to 10 years.

Law enforcement officials who have seen the autopsy photos of the girl said there were bruises or scars all over her body.

(...)

During the police interview, Reynolds told police he struck Amarrah so many times with a belt that he lost count. “Darrell said he struck Amarrah in the head, body and legs with the belt,” the detective wrote in his statement.

Taylor told police that Reynolds had been abusing their daughter for about two years.

"Dalvon stated the abuse typically consisted of Darrell hitting Amarrah in the face and torso, hitting her forcefully with a belt numerous times, which caused welts to her arms, back, legs, and torso, severe pinching, and grabbing the back of her neck and lifting her off the ground.” Taylor said she also saw Reynolds kick Amarrah as she lay on the floor.

She's so precious. It's impossible to comprehend how anybody could harm her.
This is so sad.

Every adult in the home and any family member who knew about these beatings should be charged with murder. Endangering the health and welfare is just not enough. She and anyone else who knew should be in prison forever. I am just so tired of children dying and a parent/relative saying that they knew about the abuse.

Then, why did this mother stay and let him do this? Ugggghhhh. This baby girl deserved better.

Decatur police also say they spoke with Amarrah's mother, Dal'von Taylor Reynolds. According to the sworn statements, Dal'von told detectives that "Darrell has been abusing Amarrah for approximately two years," and that she "she knew the abuse was occurring and never reported it to police or DCFS." Additionally, Decatur police say Dal'von stated that "Darrell was also abusive towards her, which prevented her from reporting the abuse."

A police official noted that Reynolds “tortured” the girl. The affidavit stated that “injuries to the inside of her thigh appear consistent with severe pinch marks that punctured the flesh.”

Today Amarrah Reynold's grandfather, Darrell Reynolds Sr., sat down with WAND to tell us how the family is remembering her.

He says the extended family is tight-knit and spends a lot of time together. He says he never saw the bruising or physical abuse reported in the sworn statements

I certainly understand that the mother may have been endangered as well. But, I can't fathom leaving a child in this. The family says it is tight knit. The mother had to have had someone she could give this little girl to in order to save her life. I know I may sound harsh but to read that she knew over the two years and never did anything to spare this child is beyond my realm of comprehension. She had to have seen things escalating and hear the screams of her child.
