Very interesting story about "on-line" detectives.

Websleuths is mentioned and so is Susan Bennet. She did post first on Websleuths and then opened "Webbsleuths".

She was a part of the on-line sleuthing community.
Take the case of Susan Bennett who went by the alias “Jameson” online. Bennett speculated so prolifically online on the popular Websleuths forum and on pages she herself set up, that she ended up becoming a figure in the case herself. Despite the fact that Bennett was a housewife living in North Carolina with no legal training whatsoever, her prolific online postings established her as an authority in the case. She was quoted in innumerable newspaper articles in the late 1990s and appeared on television. Bennett was the first online amateur sleuth to be given such a prominent platform. (Attempts to reach Bennett, if she is still alive, were unsuccessful. Her website is still up, but her email address is defunct and her common name makes her difficult to locate.)

Wow! I didn't know. Thanks Tricia for sharing this story.

Thanks, Tricia. There is a another reason for sleuthing the JonBenét case, which is not well described by the author in the Guardian.

Whether an adult found JonBenét with the ligature around her neck or not, the how or why of the strangling event we may never know, but Boesp touched on something which has always been a hurdle. How can someone who loves a child with their whole heart turn on a dime and suddenly deny the love by not reaching out for immediate assistance. Well, it’s ‘someone’ who is more concerned with their reputation, concerned that people might find out about some dark secrets, and that ‘someone’ believes they can do a better job of managing BR’s health issues than the ‘system’. Look where their control over BR has led. Anyone think BR is a normal man without deep issues/’secrets’ he must keep compartmentalized for the rest of his life? They got him the help he needed? Hog pitooey.

This whole thing fits with who the Rs were and are, their behavior and coping mechanisms. Create the image and people will believe you. When Patsy’s cancer returned, and she was actually facing her mortality, I do believe she may have regretted their decisions and actions that night. But she was a Southern gal and protecting the family was paramount. Moreover, families of incest develop modes of coping, and denial is a common trait of their dynamics.

Did anyone catch JR’s defiant comment towards the end of the Dr. P interview? “This was MY child who was murdered. Never forget it.” He also said once he wanted the “world to know what it had done,” and therefore the choice of December 25th on her gravestone.

After this sorry display on Dr. P my reply to JR is this: No. More people have empathy for her than either you or your son have ever demonstrated. You relinquished ‘ownership’ of JonBenét when you deserted the tiniest person in the household in her time of need. This wasn’t simply physical desertion in rushing to burial. For the many who know there was no intruder it was also emotional desertion in denying the truth of her death and reinforcing the lies with accusations towards the police and others. Patsy referenced her as “America’s Princess”, a sexualized image on stage. You and Patsy both created an enduring mystery of how she was hurt and strangled. The painful knowledge of her death including the prior sexual injuries which you deny to this day, has captured the public’s empathy. Actually she does belong to the world now. She’s our child, and we still are sticking around to tell the truth as we see it. MHO.

Coming out of the shadows to post. Long time lurker and follower of the case. Hi guys! :loveyou:

Jameson (Susan Bennett) is alive and well and her email address is not defunct. She is still quite active on the sh@t show that is the Topix message board.
