~.People have things in their pockets -- that is why they are there!!

............Sounds as if LE killed another disabled (sounds like shizophrenia) young black human being.

I think maybe they all need to be retrained.

Anyone with common sense, who observes a (possibly some confusion ?? shirtless) man wandering in and out of traffic , I would hope, conclude he has got some issues, and respond accordingly. moo.

Hope not a duplicate I looked

Here is the deal,
again:

Walking in and out of traffic in the middle of the street and “not acting like himself”,

woman police believe may be the man’s sister called officers for help just after 1 p.m. Tuesday.

.......the man wasordered to take his hand out of his pocket.........

"When he lifted his hand out ... he did have something in his hand..................... but it wasn't no gun, and that's when they shot him."

"I just called for help, and you came and killed him," she said......

........ did not release details on the specific threat he presented to officers.

...(an) officer deployed his Taser to try and subdue the subject, Davis said, though it is unclear whether the Taser struck the suspect.

They seem to be able to hit with bullets but those tasers not so much

.......officer fired five rounds.

....another man said police fired on a man who had his hands out to his side.

.......... manager inside a nearby restaurant said the suspect refused to remove his arms from his side

The officers didn't see a mentally ill man in crisis. They saw a black man.

Why is this under crimes in the news instead of up to the minute?

What they saw was someone pretending to point a gun in an officer's face at very close range.

Look at the picture - if that man did have a gun that officer is probably dead right now.

Police are not magic.

He was shot because he was acting deranged and then pretended to point a gun at an officer's head.

Can someone please explain to me HOW an officer is supposed to A). Know if someone has mental health issues. B).KNOW beyond the shadow of a doubt , that the suspect will not harm them??
Is a mentally ill person with a gun automatically LESS dangerous?? I'm not trying to be argumentative but do we expect officers to stand there like targets at a shooting range??..

Great questions.

IMO there is no way for cops to know the mentality of someone. They only know what they see. And if they see a real threat, they have to handle it.

I don't know enough about this case to give an opinion one way or the other.

I will have to wait and see how this one unfolds.

The police and the county district attorney will both investigate the shooting, officials said, even as residents called Wednesday for authorities to release video footage showing what happened.
Olango’s death came as tension lingers in Charlotte over a deadly police shooting there a week earlier, which sparked a renewed focus nationwide on how officers use deadly force, and it prompted protests and a prayer vigil in this city in southern California.

Because his sister called 911 THREE TIMES, asking for help with him.

Exactly. So they knew what they needed to know (unarmed and mentally ill) and they shot him anyway. Thanks for your help.
