PA - Thomas Gibson, 28, fatally shot, Johnstown, 30 Sept 2016 *Arrest*

A Johnstown man faces up to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty Tuesday to the September 2016 shooting death of his roommate.

Lonnie Minerd, 40, of the 800 block of Ash Street, was arrested on a general charge of homicide in the Sept. 30 fatal shooting of 28-year-old Thomas Cody Gibson.

Neugebauer said the third-degree murder charge was determined in discussion with police and family members.

A Hornerstown man charged in the shooting death of his roommate last year was sentenced to 7 1/2 to 15 years in state prison Tuesday by Cambria County President Judge Norman Krumenacker III.

Shellbie Kovach, Gibson’s sister, said she didn’t forgive Minerd, asking Krumenacker for the maximum sentence.

“He needs to sit in there and rot,” she said.

Donna Heaton, Gibson’s aunt, said despite Minerd’s lack of criminal history, he made the decision that led to Gibson’s death.
