Coroner confirms body found in Galt was missing student Aaron Brooks, police say
The Sacramento County Coroner's Office confirmed Monday that the body found in Galt on Saturday was that of 15-year-old Aaron Brooks, Galt police Lt. Ken Erickson said.
However, even before it was made official, Brooks' family and friends have been resigned to the fact that the teen was the one who was found dead in a creek off an asphalt trail that leads to the park located east of Highway 99 and south of Walnut Avenue.
Volunteers searching for Brooks found what they believe was his body at about 9 a.m. Saturday in the unnamed creek.
Reached by phone Monday afternoon, a Brooks family member who declined to state her name said she is anxious to learn when Brooks died and how it happened.
Officials said an autopsy to determine the cause of death was not definitive late Monday afternoon. A toxicology report is pending.
The family last saw Brooks the afternoon of Oct. 26, but Galt police reported that Brooks was seen the following afternoon in the east parking lot of Galt Supermarket on A Street.
Meanwhile, Wilton resident Salvatore Carmelo Maggio, who Galt police arrested Saturday night on suspicion of murder, is scheduled to be arraigned at 1:30 p.m. today at Sacramento County Superior Court.
Maggio, 19, is in county jail on no bail, according to the county District Attorney's Office. Charges were not filed as of Monday, but they are expected to be filed by the time of Maggio's arraignment, according to DA spokeswoman Lana Wyant.
