Circumstances of Disappearance

Vickie was last seen in Salt Lake City, UT in 1986. She was dropped off at the Greyhound Bus Station, with an unknown male companion, by her father and planned to go to Wendover, NV to work as a cocktail waitress at The Red Garter Hotel & Casino. It is not known if she arrived at Wendover, Nevada or if she indeed ever bordered the Greyhound Bus in Salt Lake City. She hasn't been seen since. Vickie's family states that it is very unusual for her to leave and not be in contact.

This is a poster that I helped her daughter draw up.... The Peppermill Wendover Casino had just been newly renovated and opened in Wendover sometime in July of 1985. The exact date that Vickie was last seen is not known and that is standard to use Jan 1st in that situation.

DEEA, is there anything new with Vickie's case since I entered her in NamUs? Have they found out if she did get to the casino to start work?

I see her DNA is still processing, there is one Jane Doe that she needs compared to NV - Antelope, WhtFem 362UFNV, 25-30, found nude in cave, Sept'86

Her NamUs is now saying "Tests Complete" but I don't see her listed as a rule out for the Antelope County Jane Doe. Any updates now that her DNA has been processed?

I find this a somewhat odd statement. Even if her father didn't know the man, wouldn't Vickie have said "This is Bill, can you give us a ride?" or something upon entering the car? Did they just get in and sit in silence til they got to Greyhound? And dad didn't ask, "Who is this?" Huh.

No they have not really found out anything new. The news did an interview with her daughter and a telephone interview with her ex husband, this past week

Details of Disappearance
Smock was last seen in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 1, 1985. Her father dropped her off at a Greyhound bus station with an unknown male companion. She had $50 in cash and planned to travel to Wendover, Nevada to work as a cocktail waitress at the Red Garter Hotel & Casino. She has never been heard from again and there is no record that she ever actually boarded the bus to Nevada.

It's uncharacteristic of Smock to be out of touch with her family; her family stated she was close to her children and kept a regular routine. Her two daughters lived with her ex-husband, but Smock visited them regularly. She was estranged from her second husband in 1985, and he was reportedly jealous, threatening and violent towards her. Smock's second husband is now deceased and was never questioned by police.

Smock's first husband described her as very trusting. Her case remains unsolved and foul play is suspected.
