Trial - Ross Harris #3

With the trial halfway over or close to that point, does the media and public interest match what you were expecting leading up to it? If you were asked to predict how big the trial would be back in 2014, would you have thought bigger?

I think the trial is getting a decent attention of media attention (outside of ATL) especially when you consider that it's not being shown live by any national TV channel, is happening a month before the election, and it's not taking place during the "best" time of the year for a hot-car death trial.

However, I wouldn't be surprised if the ATL media thought the trial would be a much bigger deal nationally. Back in April, HLN was prepared to show the trial gavel-to-gavel. This time, they changed their minds and have barely covered it. I have no doubt that decision has impacted the amount of public interest in the case. If the trial was taking place in Atlanta and not occuring close to the election, how much coverage would CNN give it? I could imagine an alternate universe where the trial is getting significantly more publicity.

Thanks for the new thread!

Thank you to the new poster who mentioned about looking at Cooper's eyes and knowing he was dead. He would have only been able to see Cooper's eyes after stopping the car and getting into the back seat area. Unless there was a mirror set up in the back of the car for seeing the baby seat, he wouldn't be able to see Cooper's eyes at all. Why mention knowing that Cooper was dead? Obviously Cooper was dead. Having to include info about having medic training was unnecessary info to divulge. Why even mention it? Why did he say that he dreaded how Cooper would look? So many strange facts about this case.

I wonder why Leanna said she told the police he wouldn't do this on purpose, was it asked by LE?

Just seems a strange point to bring up if one thought it was an accident, reminds me of Tubbs in League of Gentlemen, when ask if they had seen the policeman, she said "we didn't kill him".

Weird to focus on how he would look. When would those thoughts have occurred to Ross? Immediately when he saw him in the corner of his eye? Before stopping? I'd think ones brain would basically explode in that scenario. As in only thinking, OMG, how is it possible he is here? Has he been here all day? Did I forget to drop him off this morning? How could I have forgotten to drop him off? Did I forget him? How? How?? Omg.... That's all I can imagine going Thru your brain, Not how he's gonna look when you do finally pull over to get him out.

Boy they both said umpteen times how it wasn't on purpose. Seems they dost protest too much.

Ross was worried about going to jail and metal toilets. He was upset that people will hate him. He told Leanna he was sorry for what he put her through. Leanna assures him they'll get through this. As for Cooper? Well, he had a good life but now he's with Jesus and they'll have more kids. Movin' right along...

How can anyone ignore this odd behavior? Even if it's based in some weird religion it's so far out of the box that I can't imagine the jury will think it's just normal grieving.

yes and pair that up with the behavior at the funeral which I doubt the jury will see in the trial and you are really left wondering where some people are coming from. As I understand it the state has not even talked to her...she lawyered up immediately. Frankly I would not doubt if she talks someway to Ross even to this day.

I agree. It's almost insulting how we are constantly being told that grieving is different for everyone, even though eyewitnesses at the scene all testified that JRH was acting out rather than grieving and that his behavior fell outside of the range of behavior they expect of a grieving parent. These eyewitnesses - including LE - have no reason to lie about JRH or ruin his life on purpose. They are all total strangers to JRH and each other, and they all come from all walks of life, different races, and different backgrounds and they are all saying the same thing - that JRH was NOT a grieving a father.

I thought both of their reactions were strange when it happened. I think he left him on purpose, but I think she was in on it too.

Watching RH video of him alone in interrogation room. Faking it IMO.

One of the main things I want to know and never will....when did LH find out about all his side life?????

That's a good question.

To be clear, LH is not a suspect to LE in as far as Cooper's death is concerned. However according to Cobb County Court records, it was only about two and a half months after Cooper's death that LE had enough evidence to charge JRH with murder.

Interesting fact: LH filed for divorce from JRH only two months before the original jury selection was set to begin April 11 2016. The divorce filing was February 11 2016 according to Cobb County Court records, reported by media February 12 2016 by media outlets:

The divorce was finalized March 28 2016 per Cobb County Court records, reported on March 30 2016:

Why did she stay married to JRH for so long after Cooper died, and why did she wait until the eleventh hour before his trial to finally file for divorce? Hopefully these questions will be answered when LH takes the stand.

RH was on androgel and injections for years according to his wife (youtube video response). The fact they had a baby at all was lucky IMO. I wonder if the medications increased his sex drive and whether he had been messing around for a lot longer than the phone records show, like 6-7 years ago.

I'm still watching video of the trial but so far I do not see enough evidence of 1st degree murder. I think Harris is a weirdo but everyone says he really loved that boy.

Eh, I know I've said this before and I risk sounding like a broken record, but a family's public face is not always the same as their private face. There are many abuse victims that can attest to the perpetrators being able to put a mask on in public and portray themselves to be ideal husbands, fathers, and community members. Two notorious serial killers - the Green River Killer and BTK were well known, thought of as family men, and respected in their communities. They were also involved in religious activities.

While JRH may not be accused of abuse at this time, the same concept of the double life applies here as well - his own friends didn't really know him. The day care workers testified that they would be shocked to learn that JRH was courting escorts and would no doubt be shocked at his messages to underage girls. That's because JRH was portraying himself one way in public but was completely different in private.

Almost every time we hear of a man from an mid-to-upper class community being accused of rape, murder, or spousal abuse almost everyone jumps to his defense saying "but he was such a nice guy, he could never mean to really hurt anyone and this must be a huge misunderstanding." It's the year 2016, and people still have a hard time letting go of someone's public persona because their private reality is too horrifying to think about.

I agree! What gets me is his loudness and overacting and saying things like, "my boy, my boy, why did this happen" (in so many words, may not be exact). IMO it would be more believable had he simply cried and sobbed, but the words he was using sounded odd to me like he was putting on a show for the camera. I totally understand why LE was suspicious from the get go.

I have a feeling Leanna didn't know much about his other life. She may have caught him within a few months before Coopers death, but not sure she knew ALL OF IT until after this hit the fan ;) MOO!

I just timed it - 27 seconds from the Treehouse to the intersection by CFA. It was an additional 8 seconds (once the light turned green) from tbe intersection to CFA. I tried to video the drive but will see how it turned out. Hopefully I can upload video tonight.

I don't think many parents are going to tell others they don't love their child. I think he did love Cooper but I also think he loved himself more and Cooper became a hindrance to his lifestyle. JMO of course ;)
