Jenny Chen, 26, went on a backpacking trip through Mexico in March. This trip also included hitchhiking to different cities. Jenny was also a member of the traveling website couchsurfing.com, and used it to find places to stay during her trip.

Jonathan, her husband, was supposed to meet Jenny in Cancun on April 15th, but she never showed up. The last time friends and family heard from her was April 11th when she was in Oaxaca.

Her husband is also raising money to hire a private investigator. He speculated that money may be needed for a “ransom,” although he hasn’t heard from anybody. He also fears that his wife may have been sold into human trafficking. http://www.seattletimes.com/seattle-...kpacking-trip/

it was a chance for her to clear her head and figure out what she wants to do with her life. The two met while he was living in China in 2008. They two eventually moved to the U.S.. Chen was granted permanent residency and was working toward becoming a citizen. But she struggled to find work. One last adventure on her own seemed like the perfect way to refocus.

Reinhard says they kept in close contact through Skype and Facebook as his wife posted photos of her adventures in different cities along the way.

The two agreed to meet up at the Cancun airport on April 15, but Chen never showed up. The last time family and friends heard from her was 4 days earlier.

On Friday, he's planning to head back to Mexico to try to retrace his wife's steps.

He's remains hopeful she will be found, but he fears something horrible may have happened to her.

She was scheduled to be back in Seattle on July 5.

Jonathan says he's broke.

But here he is spending on a 6th trip to Mexico.

Getting us up to "speed" (Oh, the irony of that word in this case!):

On October 18 JR posted that LE took action in the investigation the previous Friday with positive results. He was waiting for the police report to comment further.

As we finished up thread #2, JR posted yesterday October 22 that he is heading back to Mexico soon. The police are now actively following substantial leads in the case. JR cannot disclose additional details.

Dare we hope this doesn't lead to yet another dead end of promises, promises from LE?!

At this point, I doubt he has a choice if he wants to keep the pressure on LE. Not that it does any good, but he has to try. I'm sure he's more than broke by now.

I do agree with your last post on thread #2, Dex, that is would be a good idea to go back to where Jenny was last seen and recanvass and talk to people. But as others have pointed out, he also needs to be cautious and stay safe. It's a real dilemma.

As Lisa mentioned, it would be nice to find out that JR has partnered somehow with Jenny's family.

He says the police are always pulling his chain. So I hope he isn't wasting his time out there just to sit in a office for a update.

So hopefully he will recanvass the last place Jenny stayed at.

Especially if they are the sole last witnesses.

Also. They could have paid a vendor to tell Jonathan that she got into a Corona truck.
I would like to reiterate my stance that Mexican LE is as corrupt as anyone, and them will being paid off to lie is very likely.

I think JR is going to find her alive.
Praying I'm right!

The "Angelina" in this video, could be so many people...

It's interesting (to me, at least), to compare what's being reported in the two cases concerning the actions/reactions of Mexican authorities.

While JR has mentioned dissatisfaction with how Mexican authorities are handling the case, there is - apparently - communication.

Shawn's family & CDN LE, apparently, are not getting any response *at all* from Mexican authorities :(. And they too (family) are using a PI.

Another random thought: I've probably said this before, but if in the unlikely event Jenny is still safe (for variable values of safe) & travelling/gone elsewhere, she may not be using Jenny - her official name is Chen Qun Dan. Her ID documents may or may not include "Jenny" as an AKA.

And finally, I still don't understand whether JR is in contact with her family, & why he won't confirm or deny that :(.

Was really hoping for some kind of update on what has been happening, especially since his last post on the FB account was:
"The police are now actively following substantial leads on Jenny's case."

There will be an update soon. I believe this case will be solved in the near future.

There won't be any update. There is nothing for him to update. If there was, he would have given details. <modsnip>

You are optimistic. I am pessimistic, as I don't think we will ever find out what happened to Jenny. I hope I'm wrong.

I'm not basing that position on optimism. I based my opinion on Jenny's unclear thinking and risky behavior. I think she is is suffering from some being in some form of dissociative state, and is intentionally avoiding detection. All speculation from an amateur.

I wonder how things are going in Mexico. I hope JR is getting results. I've noticed that JR's last couple of updates have occurred within a few hours of someone asking if there is any news. Maybe it's time for a group member to ask again.

He did update. Big update coming next week. He is praying that the police have made progress. Of course next week he won't be able to provide any more details, just like he is still unable to disclose any additional details about the big positive results from the police investigation two weeks ago. <modsnip>
