Police are increasing their presence at movie theaters this weekend as the new movie “Get Rich or Die Trying” hits the big screens. That's because police in Philadelphia are investigating whether or not the new movie had anything to do with a murder at a movie theatre.

The new movie is the life story of rapper 50 Cent. Today, it's also at the center of an investigation.

Police say a 30-year-old man in Homestead, Pennsylvania went to a screening of the movie last night. Afterwards, he got into an argument with two men, and was shot and killed in the lobby.

That's horrible. Is no place safe? Shootout at a movie theatre...what next?

I guess the kind of movie it is would attract that type of crowd. I have no interest in his life story.

The same stuff happened re the movies CLOCKWORK ORANGE,THE WARRIORS, SCARFACE, & COLORS. You never can tell how your audience might react.

My fiance is the manager of a movie theatre and Paramount wanted to pull all of the prints of the movie from every theatre but they decided that if every theatre had a security guard present at the movie they would let them keep showing it. It's sad that people are so influenced by a stupid movie.

50 Cent speaks of sadness for cinema murder victim

Rapper 50 Cent has expressed his sadness regarding the fatal shooting at a US screening of his controversial biopic Get Rich Or Die Tryin'.

Sheldon Flowers, 30, was murdered during a bust-up immediately after the movie was shown in Pennsylvania on Wednesday. Police say Flowers was carrying an unregistered gun without a permit at the time.

50 Cent - real name Curtis Jackson - says: "I feel for the victim's family in this situation.

"But, you know, these weren't kids. This was a 30-year-old man who had a dispute with three other guys."

A man who fatally shot a former prison rival at a theater showing rapper 50 Cent's movie was sentenced Wednesday to life in prison, in part because of his violent criminal history.

Larue Taron Graves, 31, had been convicted in May of third-degree murder. Prosecutors said Graves, who had served time for voluntary manslaughter in 1993, qualified for a life sentence as a repeat offender.
