Des Moines Woman Says She Voted Twice For Trump Because "The Polls Are Rigged"

A Des Moines woman has been charged with Election Misconduct, a Class D felony, after allegedly voting twice for GOP presidential nominee Donald Trump. Terri Rote says she was afraid her first ballot for Trump would be changed to a vote for Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton.

Voter fraud suspect arrested in Des Moines

Rote, a registered Republican, reportedly cast an early voting ballot at the Polk County Election Office, 120 Second Ave., and another ballot at a county satellite voting location in Des Moines, according to a Des Moines police report.

3 suspected of voter fraud in Polk County

Three people have tried to vote multiple times in the general election this month in Polk County, according to Des Moines police reports.
...
It's the first time in 12 years that Polk County Auditor Jamie Fitzgerald can remember ever having to report potential voter fraud, he said. The case has been turned over to police for investigation. It's unclear whether criminal charges will be filed.

The good news is they were caught before any votes were counted, of course, but I can't believe a woman got herself charged with a felony to prove some sort of ridiculous point. Did she think she would get away with it and show everyone how the polls are rigged? (They are not.) Or did she think cheating is the only way her candidate can win?

She thought she should be allowed to get unemployment benefits after being fired for misconduct:

Iowa Workforce Development Unemployment Insurance Appeals

A verbal altercation ensued where the claimant called [Coworker] either a “fat cow” or a “fat *****” and [Coworker] called the claimant “evil.” [Coworker] then pushed or shoved the claimant and she pushed or shoved coworker back. This incident took place in front of the fryers which are located on rolling carts and which could have easily led to injury if either woman was pushed into the 350 degree fryer oil or the unit that housed the oil.

The employer sent the claimant home and then terminated both the claimant and [Coworker]’s employment (Employer’s Exhibit One).

DECISION:
The September 18, 2015, reference 01, decision is affirmed. The claimant was discharged from employment due to job-related misconduct. Benefits are withheld until such time as she has worked in and been paid wages for insured work equal to ten times her weekly benefit amount, provided she is otherwise eligible.

There are #rumours of other incidents as well.

Is this a joke? Research voter fraud. How about look into all the fraud on the other side? People in FL who are registered in NY or NJ and vote in both states. That is just for a start. Dead people voting. Why is this even on WS? And we have ONLY voting by mail here in Oregon. Isn't that convenient for the people in power? Get your head out of the sand. I have a ballot sitting here from my son who is in college and left 3 years ago. He still gets a ballot here at our address. Will I fill it out and vote in his name? NO. I follow the law. And I wish we went back to having to vote in person, show ID and verify we are US citizens. How difficult is that? Sorry to sound rude. This stuff makes my blood boil.

The subject is Crimes in the News. Voting fraud is a crime and the voter in question has been charged with a felony. Fairly simple! :)

My feeling is that humans on both "sides" are still humans, and have roughly the same human instinct to "cheat", so any voter fraud probably balances itself out.

In other words, believing that people in one political party are somehow more "honorable" than in another party disregards the reality of human nature, and smacks of fuzzy thinking.

(Although possibly I'm giving certain extremists too much credit.)

Either way, agree it was a silly and pointless gesture on the part of the accused.

(I voted early. The system in my state caught that my address had changed (election mail returned) and marked it me as inactive. I was able to fix it on site, and my early voting precinct appeared to be running smoothly. Doing my bit for a swing state.)

You are not rude, you are right. Large scale voter fraud is rampant but people who get their news solely from mainstream media are told that it isn't happening because the major networks other than FOXnews are totally in the can for HRC and the democratic party.

The woman who is the subject of this thread sounds pretty loopy to me. I'm glad she got caught. There is no excuse for cheating, even if the other side does it. No one should be able to vote without proof of citizenship to register and legal picture ID at the polls. The only reason the current administration changed that is so that people who are not citizens and who have no legal right to vote can vote anyway for the party which will pay them welfare, free medical insurance, ( which working people can't afford), and a free education, among other financial incentives. One citizen, one vote, period. That's the only fair way to do it.

Can't see this thread staying open long at this rate if you guys are going to go straight to invoking "people who don't watch FOX news are dumb".

I surely don't miss the Political Pavillon.

Do you have any links to back up your voter fraud assertions? TIA!

Yeah, which sucks because this is an interesting subject! I would never dream of trying to commit voter fraud and wow, did she get caught quickly! As did the other two mentioned. I agree with you it doesn't matter which side a person is on the law is the law and fraud is wrong. It's amusing though, in this case, when we've heard so much about the election being rigged one way and this was an attempt to rig it the other way.

I've been looking up other old cases and plan on paying close attention to see how often this happens during the next two weeks.

I don't see this thread staying open either and I hope it gets shut down.

I think most fraudulent votes are caught in time so it doesn't matter who is behind them. So they don't balance out as much as the system keeps the balance where it should be.

I think that you must have misread my post. I did not and would not say or imply that anyone was "dumb" because of which news they watch. I'm sorry that it sounded that way to you. My beef is with the mainstream media when it comes to accuracy in reporting political news, not with anyone here or those who watch it. :peace:

This is from 2014:

A comprehensive investigation of voter impersonation finds 31 credible incidents out of one billion ballots cast

To be clear, I’m not just talking about prosecutions. I track any specific, credible allegation that someone may have pretended to be someone else at the polls, in any way that an ID law could fix.

So far, I’ve found about 31 different incidents (some of which involve multiple ballots) since 2000, anywhere in the country. If you want to check my work, you can read a comprehensive list of the incidents below.

To put this in perspective, the 31 incidents below come in the context of general, primary, special, and municipal elections from 2000 through 2014. In general and primary elections alone, more than 1 billion ballots were cast in that period.

In just four states that have held just a few elections under the harshest ID laws, more than 3,000 votes (in general elections alone) have reportedly been affirmatively rejected for lack of ID. (That doesn’t include voters without ID who didn’t show up, or recordkeeping mistakes by officials.) Some of those 3,000 may have been fraudulent ballots.

I think Rote's quick arrest and charge - and the other two in Polk County who were caught so quickly - shows us the system is working as it should.

I'll say this respectfully as I can--in my experience, people only use "mainstream media" as a pejorative term when it doesn't agree with their specific political dogma. Cable news is cable news is cable news--every one of those networks is driven by ratings and advertising dollars.

But I come from the newspaper industry.

Man Charged With Filing Fake Voter Registration Applications in Va

Vafalay Massaquoi, 30, was charged with four felonies related to allegations of voter registration fraud, the Commonwealth's Attorney's Office said. Each charge carries a maximum of 10 years in prison.

Porter said while the false applications were filed, no illegal votes were cast in this case.

"Since the fraudulent applications involved fictitious people, had the fraud not been uncovered the risk of actual fraudulent votes being cast was low," Porter said.

Two Arrested In Separate Voter Fraud Cases In Miami-Dade County

Gladys Coego, 74, a temporary Election Support Specialist for the Miami-Dade Elections Department tasked with opening mail-in ballots and scanning them into the machine, is accused of marking ballot choices that were originally left blank, according to CBS4 News partner The Miami Herald.

And

In a second arrest, police said Tomika Curgil, 33, filled out voter-registration forms for five citizens without their consent and submitted at least 17 forms for people believed to not exist, including several who are dead.

Authorities said Curgil was hired as a canvasser to register voters for People United For Medical Marijuana.

“Our law enforcement effort against these election law violators was swift and resulted in an immediate arrest of the wrongdoers. The Elections Department was quick to detect and report these violations to our Task Force,” stated Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle. “Anyone who attempts to undermine the democratic process should recognize that there is an enforcement partnership between the Elections Department and our Prosecution Task Force in place to thwart such efforts and arrest those involved. Now we need to move forward with the election.”
