PORT ALBERT—News circulated on Manitoulin this past Wednesday that a man, who called himself Mitchell Nelson to those who met him, and had [been] seen by many travelling Highway 6 in September—a unique spectacle because of the canoe he was towing behind his bicycle—was found dead along the shore of Lake Huron, near Port Albert, Ontario, Police are seeking assistance in helping to determine his true identity.

The name ‘Mitchell Nelson’ has been run through many databases, but has proven unsuccessful.
The deceased was travelling from Alberta to London, Ontario, via bike and canoe. He identified himself as Mitchell Nelson to The Expositor during his time on the Island in September.
The body was found on a beach north of Port Albert on Saturday, October 15 by civilians. The police previously told The Expositor that a post mortem exam was conducted on Monday, October 17. The cause of death was undetermined, but there is no evidence to indicate foul play. A search was conducted for his canoe and bicycle, but they have yet to be located.

How about John Michael Carroll from Victor, Idaho?, missing since November 10, 2005.

" Shortly before his disappearance, Carroll had a conversation with his father about disappearing and taking on a new identity."

This photo of John Michael Carroll looks like a younger version of our unidentified decedent. See link below:

Perhaps someone could do a side-by-side photo?
