Man Surrenders To Police After Barricading Himself In Bathroom

DURHAM, N.C. -- A man who claimed to be armed with a gun while barricaded inside a bathroom at Lincoln Community Health Center for about 2 hours Saturday has surrendered to Durham police, authorities said.

... police were called to the health center, ... at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday after an employee reported that a man locked himself in a bathroom and was screaming and threatening people.

Officers arrived at the scene and evacuated the facility. Then, police negotiators and members of the Selection Enforcement Team entered the building, Michael said.

She said negotiators stayed in contact with the man until he surrendered at about 2:10 p.m.

Officers did not find a gun on the man, though he damaged the bathroom, Michael said.

The man, whose identity was not known as of Saturday afternoon, is being taken for a psychological evaluation, Michael said.
