Matis and Hess were together in the business office when Matis "removed a Glock model 17.9 millimeter caliber pistol from a holster that he was wearing and caused the pistol to discharge a bullet in the direction of Hess," police said in a criminal complaint.

Thanks Richrd for posting the crimes in PA.

I am having trouble seeing how this was simply "reckless".

Evidently, the victim was standing directly in front of the shooter (trained) who had removed the weapon from a holster, pointed it at the victim, then fired.

As such, this does not appear to be an incident where the shooter was dry firing at the wall, but forgot he had loaded the weapon, or was actually shooting in a poorly chosen direction. Likewise, it does not fit the scenario where an individual is given an "unloaded" weapon to handle, then accidently shoots another person, or an untrained person plays with a weapon and unintentionally fires it.

Something just seems almost deliberate.

Seems likely someone else was close, imo. The Light the Night ceremony was scheduled for 7pm, w a procession/parade of FD vehicles per FD's facebook. Shooting happened ~4 or 4:30? If other ppl/FFs present at shooting were interviewed in any of the several links Rchard (TYVM) posted, I missed it. Anyone??? Puzzling to me and very sad. Tragic.

Thx for answering my Q, as I missed that ^. Now leading me to wonder about this 3d person:
- who, FF or non-FF?
- where person was in FD? Just outside door of ofc where shooting occurred. at other end of bldg?
- what did person hear?
- before the shot? Raised voices? Arguments? Horsing around physically? Kidding/joking about guns & shooting?
- heard what after the shot?
- after the shot, did person rush into ofc? Saw what?

So puzzling - these shooting cases among friends/family/acquaintances/co-workers w no obvious motive or malice.
At least not yet released to gen public. Like you, I'm still trying to grasp.
