OH - Youngstown firefighter shot at scene of house fire, 5 December 2016

The firefighter was identified as Lt. Paul Lutton. He was taken to the hospital for a gunshot wound to the leg, and he is expected to fully recover.

Fire Chief John O’Neill said he doesn’t think the shooting was random and that police are treating it as a targeted shooting.

“I don’t think they were stray bullets. There were a few shots taken, and we have at least two bullet holes in the truck,” O’Neill said. “Now it’s going to be up to the police. Hopefully, the police will get on this and get someone right away and find out what’s going on and why they did it.”

According to police, the shooter was in the driveway of a home on Halleck Street and began firing shots at the truck that was driving by. Police believe the shooter used a rifle.
A Mercedes SUV was seen in the area and police are actively looking for that vehicle.

Youngstown police are investigating the possibility that someone who argued with firefighters Monday night is the same person who fired two shots at a fire truck, wounding one firefighter.

“One hit the driver in the leg. The second went through the back door and actually went through the firefighter’s coat, right in front of his chest,” Fire Chief John O’Neill said.

A perimeter was set up and K-9 units were called in to search the area.

Lutton is still recovering Tuesday night and the other firefighter, Dwyain Montgomery, wasn’t hurt, although the bullet was found in a pocket of his turnout coat.

This sure is crazy. Sounds like to me, somebody had it in for public servants that day. Am thankful that nobody was seriously injured. Hope Paul is feeling better!

"Although police haven’t linked Cameron Dyer to the shooting, they say he did harass firefighters, saying they weren’t acting fast enough to put out the fire at an Elm Street home. That’s where police and prosecutors say he had drug money stashed."

Youngstown man sentenced for interfering with firefighters

In March Cameron Dyer pleaded guilty to disrupting public services.

Judge Lou D'Apolito immediately sentenced Dyer to one year in prison, which will be added to the thirty year term he is serving in prison for an earlier drug conviction.
