DETROIT -- A man serving a life sentence for a murder conviction has won a $219,000 judgment against a prison employee.

Darrell Siggers claims he was transferred to another prison in 2001 in retaliation for a complaint.

The 41-year-old Detroit man claimed that David Barlow, a resident unit manager at Mound Correctional Facility, had him transferred after he complained that Barlow failed to promptly process paperwork to pay for a lawyer.

Barlow denied Siggers claim.

But on Wednesday Siggers won the judgment, which included $200,000 in punitive damages.
