This has made many of us very sad....Mr. Martin was a well-known and respected AKC judge, and the dog show world is well networked....and this judge has long been admired by many. While I never showed under him (I have a toy breed), he was known to be warm, welcoming, and happy to share his opinion and knowledge.

Evidently, a friend went by to pick him up for a pre-planned breakfast, and there was no answer at the door. She discovered the door was open, went in, and discovered blood "throughout the house" and then saw his body.

Evidently, he had recently been robbed, and knew the man who had robbed him. I have a feeling (hope) they will solve this quickly.

Sad. So senseless.

If anybody finds any additional information, it will be appreciated....

I missed that he was a retired police officer!

I have friends in the area and they are cautiously worried.
There was allot of police presence in the area.
A sweet part of town that usually is very quiet.
It is rumored that he was threatened, by who? no one knows.
He was robbed of guns.
There is allot of drug activity in the main town of Butler, but this is on the edge of town suburbs.
R.I.P.
I listen to scanner to see if they have anyone, not yet.

Thanks, Passion.....by all (dog people) accounts he was a good man with a wonderful sense of humor....

I'd be uneasy, too...be safe up there. I believe they will catch the murderer quickly. I hope, anyway.

From the first article linked I got the impression the prior robbery was separate from the man who had threatened him in the past but I could have missed reading it in the articles.

Home invasions resulting in murdering the homeowners or everyone inside have been spiking in the past 2-3 years.. Some of the most brutal overkills I have ever read about were done by complete strangers in home invasions..

It seems these horrid wicked individuals have no qualms whatsoever in cold bloodedly murdering innocent others or beating them almost to death and even doing horrific rapes before the victims are killed. They do what they do because they know they are in control and the victim is defenseless. So often the elderly are targeted.

I would like to think that no one who knew this man would do such a terrible thing to him. So sad and to know he served his community as a police officer until he retired makes it even sadder in someway. If he had yardwork done or repairs done on his home then possibly one of those may have done this.

Whoever the murderer/s are I hope they are arrested soon and off the streets. Until then no one in that area is safe.

I remember when a suspect entered the home of the Husteds and murdered both parents. The police assumed they were targeted by someone they knew. I hate it when they make unsubstantiated assumptions when so often they don't have any evidence showing that was even true. Its just an assumption LEOs make at times. Anyway, they didn't catch the suspect right away and he did another home invasion after then.

IMO

I just talked to a few friends in the 'dog world' and he judged at fairgrounds. Everyone loved him. He was jolly. Tight little group (dog world) went to breakfast every Sat together.

I hope you are right that police find his killer asap, but a small town? and then they haven't found who robbed him of his guns yet.
We need help from State or Feds (guns)

OceanBlueyes, so right on home invasions.
I am surprised that door was unlocked, did he let someone in that he knew?
No forced entry?

snipped for room:From the first article linked I got the impression the prior robbery was separate from the man who had threatened him in the past but I could have missed reading it in the articles. It is confusing......

Yes!! I agree!! At the very least, the state should be on this - for the exact reason you have stated...Guns!

It will be even more tragic if they find he was killed with one of his stolen guns...

Lots of rumors running around, I won't tell them til verified.
One true thing is his house was very secure. Cameras in and out, password numbers on his doors.
Jim loved electronics and showed friends how he could watch his home from his cell phone. Now if someone was a close friend they would know this. If a home invasion by stranger then cameras would show everything IF they were on 24/7.

Darn!! And I can't listen to the scanner right now!!

I saw on FB (and the article above confirmed that, and now you...) that he had cameras....I feel strongly they will catch this monster....

Last month, Martin reported to police that his home was broken into and two guns were stolen. Police said the suspect in that burglary, Cody Howard, was interviewed Sunday afternoon in Washington County as part of the homicide investigation.

Investigators said Howard is not a suspect in Martin's killing.

so the teaser for news was this....no suspect in murder...........yet

Yesssssssssss!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thanks for updating this thread, Passion!! You are awesome!!!

If I understand things.....the guy who broke into his house last month has now been arrested.....but not for murder. Yet.

Is that correct?
