Tyler Patrick Osborne, of the 600 block of Rhoads Avenue, was sentenced in Montgomery County Court to 11 ½ to 23 months in the county jail after he pleaded guilty to a felony charge of statutory sexual assault in connection with his contact with the underage girl between December 2013 and May 2014. Osborne will receive credit for the time he’s been in jail while awaiting court action since September 2014.

I definitely feel for the kid. When I was 21 and single and lonely like him, I met a girl who was 15. I was kind of into her and she was into me (or at least it seemed so). We talked for a couple weeks and then decided to go to a concert together. We had a great time, but in the end (mostly thanks to this girl being honest about her age with me), I decided not to pursue a physical relationship because of the age difference (and its potential criminality), but if I was 19 and she had said she was 17, it might have been different. In retrospect 25 years later, it was clearly the right decision, but it's hard to see that when you're young and alone and there is someone you like who's into you, too.

I feel bad for him too. It seems like he got himself caught in the middle of a big confusion.
I hope he comes to his senses and comes back safe and sound.

Lynnieth, i am not sure if it is ok to insert from private fb by direct copy / paste

Oh I thought it was OK if the FB post was from the MP. I'm sorry! I AM going to report it myself. Thanks for the warning :)

YES. And a boy of 21 isn't necessarily all that more mature or in any way predatory to want to date a 15 year old. Its just illegal. I understand that parents wouldn't want their 15 year old dating a 21 year old too - but I just know too many young men who are just babies longer than girls.

I feel so bad for this kid. My son (and our entire family) went through six years of absolute hell by this exact situation with an underage girl who lied about her age. My son had just turned 17 and was facing LIFE in prison....we live in a state where the punishment is swift and WAY too harsh in these situations. It's ridiculous. At some point these lying girls need to be held accountable and punished as they run around ruining young guys lives. Having a felony conviction....or even a felony arrest just ruins their future. They can't be on a lease, it's difficult to get jobs, they can't continue going to school (if in hs), they can't join the military, etc. I get so angry that NOTHING happens to these girls who lie about their age. I can assure you in my son's case the girl looked MUCH older than 13.

Tyler's life sounds lonely and he seems to not have the best home life. I wish at times judges and the system would use common sense, but of course that will never happen (or so it seems....I know there are some great judges out there). He's scared and wants to do the right thing but injustice is a damn bitter pill to swallow.

Tyler, if you're by chance reading, there are people with great compassion and wish things were different for you. I'm sure you're anxiety is off the charts. I'm so sorry this happened to you. Sadly, it happens more than most realize. Most cases never make the news. I'm so glad my son's did not.

ETA: I'm so glad Tyler is "safe". Some of these guys self medicate, self destruct, self harm, etc. So I'm thankful he's posting and is thinking things through. He will do the right thing as hard as it is for him.

I got involved with a couple older (by a few years straddling 18) guys in my teens, and I'm sure lied about my age once or twice. If they were convicted of felony sex assault and had to be RSOs at 22, I would feel horrible. I can't blame him if he thinks his life is ruined, especially if she lied about her age and there was no actual violence or rape. I wish parents would think about that before bringing the hammer down.

Doesn't this seem backwards?

Fastforward to sentencing and the judge didn't think it was fair after hearing her and her mom saying yes he did this but it was due to a lie, but I did break the law. So he gave me a choice. A lower misdemeanor charge but be on Megans Law, or a felony charge without the Megans Law. I obviously choose the felony and got 11.5 to 23 months of which I did 10 months. I got out July 22nd of 2015.
