Butterball Turkey Talk Line

So, did you hear the one about the woman who wanted to go to the casino in the midst of cooking her turkey?

Supervisor Dorothy Jones says the talk line received a call from a first-time cook concerned about putting her turkey in a small wall oven. Jones says the woman thought the turkey might expand like bread, making it impossible to get the turkey out of the oven.

Another caller wanted to know if it was safe to cook a turkey that had been frozen for five years. The answer to that one -- yes, but the bird might be a little tough.

As for the woman who wanted to go to the casino, Jones says it's important that people never interrupt the cooking of poultry. Otherwise, it isn't safe to eat.

When it comes to competitive eating, don't mess with Sonya Thomas.

Weighing all of 100 pounds, Thomas once again showed the big boys a thing or two during a pre-Thanksgiving turkey-eating contest in New York.

In 12 minutes, Thomas ate four pounds, 3.1 ounces of bird, which won her the $2,500 first prize.

It's the latest feather in the cap for Thomas, of Alexandria, Virginia.

It took more than 10 police officers to restore order at a Maryland Wal-Mart when a scuffle broke out as the devices went on sale Monday night.

About 300 people had been waiting some as long as 12 hours. And they'd devised their own system, using numbers, to determine who'd get first shot at the new video game players.

The trouble began when a store manager announced they'd be sold on a first-come, first-served basis instead of using the numbers.

One customer said the scene that developed "was like a mosh pit." Some people were knocked down and trampled, but nobody was seriously hurt and there were no arrests.
