UPDATE: Progress being made in investigation into burned body

"On Jan. 10, 2017, at approximately 4:38 p.m., the Whitfield County 911 Center received a call concerning a body being discovered in a wooded area at the dead end of Ellis Road. The body was discovered by a 13-year-old male that lived in the area and was walking in the woods. Upon arriving at the scene officers discovered the deceased body of a male subject that had been placed in the woods and set on fire. We believed the body had been at the location less than 24 hours.

Thank you WS member Northgeorgia for bringing this case to our attention.

In a press release from the sheriff’s office later in the day, investigators pointed to a link between the body and a missing person’s report filed in another state “shortly after the body was discovered.”

“Investigators strongly feel the missing person and the discovered body are one in the same due to the circumstances surrounding the disappearance of the individual and some identifying body similarities,” the release stated.
Which state the missing person’s report was filed in and what those similar characteristics are were not released. The sheriff’s office and investigators from the Georgia Bureau of Investigation are working on the case.
“Our investigators are working with law enforcement from the jurisdiction where the person was reported missing,” the release stated. “DNA has been collected and sent to the GBI Crime Lab to compare with our homicide victim. It may take several weeks before the lab can confirm if it is the missing person.”

The poor child who found this body! My thoughts are with him and the family of the deceased.

I grew up in Whitfield county, still have family there.
Investigators seem to be concentrating on a missing person from another state in this case and in the case of the other body that was found recently. Are they connected?

Whitfield County sheriff's Capt. Rick Swiney tells The Daily Citizen that authorities have tentatively identified the man, but his name hasn't been made public. Authorities have said he's in his mid-20s.

Does anybody know if anything's happened (ID or rule-out)? The WALB story is giving me "The page you requested is currently unavailable" and it isn't a very old story, maybe 2-wks or so.

The Dalton Daily Citizen link still works, but it's one of those "you have 'X' stories remaining for the month" websites. Since there's a few related stories there, you use them up pretty quick.

I am wondering if it could be Brandon Price, in my opinion?

Although the article in my post states that the Tennessee Highway Patrol Helicopter assisted on a search on a Saturday. He was last seen on a Friday. I don't know technically when a missing person's report was filed on him. The article was from January 10th.

This unidentified burned body was found on the 10th of January, and your link mentions that a missing person's report was filed shortly after this body was found.

There is a websleuths thread for Brandon Price:

I grew up in Murray County and worked in Dalton (in Whitfield County). This certainly isn't something you see down there every day.
