6 children dead after Baltimore fire

Six children were found dead after a fiery house collapse that injured four other family members who escaped from the home in Northeast Baltimore's Cedmont neighborhood Thursday morning, the city Fire Department said.

The children who died were a 9-month-old boy, a 2-year-old boy, a pair of 3-year-old twin girls, and two girls, ages 10 and 11, according to the Fire Department.

The mother and two other children, ages 4 and 5, remain in critical condition at an area hospital, Clark said. An 8-year-old who helped carry the two toddlers out is expected to be released from the hospital Thursday.

6 children dead after Baltimore fire

The woman who lived in the home, identified as Katie Malone, is the mother of nine children who lived in the home along with their father, who was at work at the time of the fire.

William Malone said all nine are his children with Katie, who's a staff member for Rep. Elijah Cummings' district office.

    Unhappy

Losing one children is bad enough. Losing six is beyond anything I can even imagine.

We see this every winter an increase in number of deadly fires.

We dont know yet if it was the space heater but IMO there is only one type of space heater to ever buy. This oil based heater is the safest heater IMO because it does not have the glowing red metal that some heaters have.

Some of the ceramic based heaters are also pretty safe but IMO this would be the only type I would ever buy. It is an oil based heater that has oil filled up inside of it and the oil gets hot internally inside the metal and they do a wonderful job of heating a large area.

I have had a couple of them quit working because of overuse but they are very safe IMO and you just have to make sure they dont fall over because I think they need to improve the base with the wheels but I havent had one fall over yet. If you have a large dog then I would try to be sure the dog would not knock it over.

I really do think this type is the most safest they make because there is no glowing hot parts. The metal gets very hot so you dont want kids or dogs touching it but I dont think they can cause a fire on their own unless they fall over or have some serious internal flaw.

IMO I would recommend getting this type and trashing any others. Except maybe the ceramic ones which I have also liked. But I like these better because they do such a great job of heating rooms.

You let them warm up and then in about an hour or so the whole room starts to get warm. And its a nice type of dry heat with no fans or anything needed.

Please honor my kids. For Bridgette, its as simple as making art. Sing a Hamilton tune. Or Rent. For Amelia, speak out against injustice: women’s rights, animal rights, bullying. And read. Copiously. For my twins: sit down with your best friend, or worst enemy and figure something out. Solve a problem. For Billy Be helpful. Be very very helpful. And for my Daniel: smile and laugh. Demand to be noticed if the world is passing you by. Do not forget my brave little Erin. She woke me and got me and Jack and Jane out of the house. She is a spunky super brave little soul.
