Police took Amy Robertson, 38, into custody after emergency responders found her 12-year-old son dead in a Riverwood Apartment unit.

Police identified the boy as Caden Berry, a student at Claggett Creek Middle School. The state medical examiner is working to determine his cause of death.

“His mom just came out here yelling,” one neighbor said. She was reportedly swinging her arms around and said something about demons to another neighbor. Though it wasn’t immediately clear to them what was wrong, the teen was noticeably absent...

“I said, ‘Where’s your son?’ She said, ‘In the house under the blanket.’ So I went into his room. He wasn’t in there.”

As she searched further, she found the boy in the living room.

“There was a recliner tipped over and he was halfway on it under a blanket,” she said. “I pulled the blanket back and I could tell he was gone.”

The Keizer Police Department in a news release Sunday says 38-year-old Amy Marie Robertson is being held at the Marion County Correctional Facility without bail.

An autopsy to determine the cause of death has been scheduled for Monday at 9 a.m. at the Oregon State Medical Examiner's Office.

Robertson will appear before the Marion County Circuit Court on Tuesday at 3 p.m.

Neighbors said Caden was a good kid who loved playing basketball, and liked Pokemon. His friends said school and life won't be the same without him.

"He put a smile on your face, and I can't believe this is happening. It's just terrible," said KY, one of his friends. "I hope he's flying high with the angels and I hope he's really happy."

ETA The vigil article has a number of statement from Cadens peer group of friends and neighbors and all are clearly devestated and trying to absorb this loss.

RIP Caden

KEIZER, Ore. (KOIN) — The autopsy of a murdered preteen from Keizer determined the boy died after being strangled, police say.

The Oregon State Medical Examiner’s Office determined the cause of death was asphyxiation due to strangulation.

I feel so sick right now. I just wanted to post the update. My heart is heavy right now, this is not okay. I am so sick to my stomach over people that can do this to their kids. This is local to me and this is too much. How could anyone do this? RIP Caden your life was cut too short and you deserved better than this. So many prayers to your family, your dad your friends and loved ones. I am lighting a candle for you tonight Caden.

I've been following this since it was reported. So so horribly sad. It's been really interesting reading the comments. Family, friends, neighbors and even former neighbors have been posting. I hope they look into what happened with her eldest son who passed away back in 2011 at age 12. He died of strangulation, but it was ruled as a suicide. Per a former neighbor, she gave 3 conflicting stories about it. Those poor boys. It's interesting that the only surviving middle child was living with an aunt (sister of Amy), yet the youngest remained with his mother.

Yeah, pretty much everyone posting on all the local news stories on FB are making comments about the other son. I wasn't sure if that could be speculated on here so I didn't post about it, but it seems sketch for sure. I am so sad for Caden. This story shook me hard enough to pour a glass of red wine and go outside to have a long smoke. My husband was like, what is wrong, and all I could say was I'm tired of this, I'm tired of these children being treated like this. How could any mother? I do hope they look back into what happened with her other son. SMH.

Keizer mom indicted in murder, abuse of two sons

The Keizer mother accused of strangling her 12-year-old son to death was indicted on additional charges of murder by abuse and two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment for allegedly abusing another of her sons.

The indictment, filed Monday in Marion County, alleged that Robertson committed murder by abuse when she caused the death of Caden on Jan. 13 under circumstances "manifesting extreme indifference to the value of human life" after previously engaging in a pattern and practice of assault or torture of her other son, who is 14.

Robertson is also accused of knowingly causing physical injury to her 14-year-old son on two occasions from March 2015 to March 2016.

No trial for woman in murder of son, 12

http://keizertimes.com/2017/05/12/no-trial-woman-murder-son-12/

A Keizer woman charged with strangling her 12-year-old son to death will not face trial after being found mentally unfit.

In April, Judge Lindsey Partridge ordered a psychiatric evaluation on Robertson’s fitness to stand trial. On May 1, Partridge ordered the evaluation sealed and remanded Robertson to Oregon State Hospital.

The order signed by Partridge states that Robertson is a danger to herself or the community and that the supervision and services required are unavailable in the community.

Robertson will be confined to the hospital until she regains the capacity to stand trial or a maximum of three years. Within 60 days, hospital staff will need to report whether there is a substantial probability of her ever regaining her capacity. The hospital superintendent will have to submit a progress report to the court at least once every six months while she is there.
