Robert and Kathleen McRae were found shot to death in the kitchen of their Graceville home. Jackson County Investigators and Graceville Police found a ski mask at the scene, but ruled out robbery. However, Mrs. McRae's diamond ring was taken...

DNA evidence was submitted to the Florida Department of Law Enforcement Crime Lab back in 2003, but never turned out any leads.

For Chief Loyd Baker, the double slaying of Acie and Carolyn Worthy 25 years ago is that case. Baker had only been assigned to the Tuscaloosa County Metro Homicide Unit for a few months when the Worthys were found shot to death in their home that was burned to the ground on the night of Oct. 15, 1989...

Evidence linked the deaths to homicides of a wealthy Graceville, Fla., couple nine months earlier. Robert and Kathryn McRae were shot execution-style in a similar home-invasion robbery. Two ski masks were found at their home in northwest Florida, suggesting that at least two people were responsible. A reward of more than $200,000 is still available for information leading to an arrest.

Now the Sheriff's Office has announced a press conference, but they haven't made any indication on what will be revealed. Some Graceville residents say they hope new details will emerge leading law enforcement closer to finding out who killed the McRaes.

McKeithen, cold case team re-examining 1989 McRae murders

“There are literally hundreds and hundreds of persons of interest,” former Bay County Sheriff Frank McKeithen said in a recent interview with The News Herald. “This case is like a movie. It just moves and kind of has a life all its own. I couldn’t tear myself away.”

Despite the couple having many valuables in the home, officers could only place the money from Robert’s wallet and a ring from Kathryn’s hand as missing. Robbery soon was ruled out as the primary motive as the homicide investigation that continues to this day was set in motion.

In June, McKeithen and Roberts got the chance to bring the case before the Cold Case Advisory Commission, which is vice-chaired by Bay County Sheriff Tommy Ford. He was asked to take the position after succeeding McKeithen as sheriff. Ford is among the numerous officers to investigate the McRae case as part of a team when he worked with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.

“To see that effort continuing is good,” he said. “I’d love to see it solved.”

Tuscaloosa investigators hoping to solve 29 year old cold case
LAKEVIEW, Ala. (WIAT)-29 years ago a prominent Tuscaloosa County family was murdered in their house in the Lakeview community. Carolyn and Acie Worthy were found shot to death. The home invasion robbery case was never solved.

Captain Kip Hart from the Tuscaloosa Violent Crimes Unit says investigators have not given up and are still on the job trying to find the killer.

Here is another appeal on the anniversary of this crime:

JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WJHG/WECP) - It's been 31 years and there are still questions surrounding the murder of a Graceville couple.

Robert and Kathryn McRae were found dead in their Graceville home this week in 1989. Officials believe the couple was killed on January 28th, but authorities found the couple in their kitchen January 29th, both shot in the head.

Authorities say the initial motive of robbery was ruled out.

DNA evidence was also collected in 2003, but did not turn out leads.

If you have any information on this case, you are asked to contact the Jackson County Sheriff's Office at 850-482-9624.

After all these years, I wonder where that ring ended up? Did the perp gift it to someone? Keep it as a souvenir? Pawn it?

The other couple who were murdered and the 2 cases were linked. That's a lot of money, you'd think someone would talk.

30 years later, killing of Acie and Carolyn Worthy still unsolved

Evidence linked the deaths to homicides of a wealthy Graceville, Fla., couple nine months earlier. Robert and Kathryn McRae were shot execution-style in a similar home-invasion robbery. Two ski masks were found at their home in northwest Florida, suggesting that at least two people were responsible. Wonder if there could be any connection to the murder of Byrd and Melanie Billings?
