Albuquerque police said Wednesday morning two people stole a work van, ran a stop sign and crashed into a mother and her two kids. Officers are still looking for the suspects.

According to police, Shaylee died Wednesday morning in the horrific car crash. The teen's mother, Shaunna Arredondo is now in critical condition. Shaylee's brother who was also in this car at the time suffered a broken leg, but the family said he will be OK.

He said by the time officers arrived at the scene of the crash, the suspects, a man and a woman, had fled on foot. He said the two are likely to be charged with vehicular homicide, but had not been found or identified as of Thursday evening...

Solazzo said he is spending time at the hospital with Shaylee’s father and the rest of her family as her mother remains on life-support.

Hopefully these people already have a record and left finger prints in the van, making identifying who they are relatively easy. Once it's known who they are, I don't think they'll have much luck hiding out after killing a teenage girl.

Closing arguments in Elexus Groves trial scheduled to begin Wednesday

A jury will soon begin deliberating the fate of the woman accused of killing a mother and daughter in a stolen van. Closing arguments in the Elexus Groves trial were presented Wednesday, with the state trying to convince the jury this was murder.

Groves is charged with first-degree depraved mind murder in the death of 14-year-old Shaylee Boling and her mother, Shaunna. Groves admits she was high on meth and driving a stolen van when she struck the family’s car near Copper and Juan Tabo in 2017.

However, Groves maintains she’s not a killer and doesn’t deserve to be convicted of murder. During their closings, the defense agreed and said Groves is not the person she was back then. “Ms. Groves has owned up to those mistakes. She admitted it, she took the stand, she didn’t have to,” said Douglas Wilber, Groves’ attorney.

Groves’ defense team made much of their closing argument about Paul Garcia, who took a plea deal in the case. If the jury finds Groves guilty of the depraved mind murder, she could face life in prison. That charge means one committed an act that was a great danger to the lives of others without regard to human life. With that charge, prosecutors don’t have to prove intent to kill.

Elexus Groves sentenced in vehicular homicide of mother, daughter

A judge sentenced Elexus Groves to 25 and a half years in prison for causing a crash that killed a mother and daughter. Groves admitted to being high on meth and driving with her then-boyfriend Paul Garcia in a stolen van and fleeing from police when she hit a car near Copper and Juan Tabo in 2017.
