Irene White's elderly mother Maureen discovered her body on the kitchen floor of Irene's home. The 43-year-old mother of three, who lived with her kids but was estranged from her husband, had been stabbed in a frenzied attack...

Her grief was compounded six months later, when her mother passed away on Irene's birthday. Anne believes Irene's murderer took two lives that day, as her mother never got over what she saw the morning of her daughter's death...

After the murder, Anne discovered her sister had asked the gardaí in Dundalk for help numerous times. She was living in fear, though few knew the extent of it...

Anne says she knows who is responsible and firmly believes they will be brought to justice one day.

A man is being questioned in connection with the unsolved murder of Co Louth woman Irene White over a decade ago.

According to gardaí, a man was seen running from the vicinity of Ms White’s home at about 10.15am on the morning of the murder. Witnesses say he ran through Ice House, Hill Park, adjoining the woman’s house, into O’Hanlon Park and then escaped in a dark-coloured car that was parked there...

Gardaí do not believe robbery was the principal motive and believe somebody who wanted Ms White dead paid another person to murder her...

It is understood Gardai have suspects in the case but have been unable to bring charges against them.

"A “close family friend” has become the second man sentenced to life in prison, after admitting to the murder of mother-of-three Irene White in her Co Louth home. Niall Power (47), with an address at Giles Quay, Riverstown, Dundalk, Co Louth is the second man to be given a life sentence, after admitting his part in the 43-year-old’s murder 14 years ago. The father of four pleaded guilty on Monday morning to murdering Ms White at Ice House, Demesne Road, Dundalk, Co Louth on April 6th 2005.

In January 2018, historian Anthony Lambe (35), of Annadrumman, Castleblayney, Co Monaghan, was jailed for life after he too pleaded guilty to the murder of Ms White in the kitchen of her home.

Lambe had told investigating gardaí that he carried out the brutal murder after an individual had asked him to kill Ms White on behalf of someone else. He said he later received “a relatively small sum of money” after stabbing Irene and cutting her throat."

Second man sentenced to life for murdering Irene White 14 years ago

"Gardaí have turned their focus to the "mastermind" who ordered Irene White's vicious murder after a second man was jailed for life for the crime...

Gardaí expect the prime suspect who ordered the killing is now likely to face murder charges.

Ms White's sister Anne Delcassian, who is terminally ill with cancer and has just weeks to live, said it is her "dying wish" that the mastermind is brought to justice. Ms Delcassian was unable to attend the Central Criminal Court in Dublin yesterday as Power was sentenced to life in prison for her sister's murder."

The thing that i cannot understand is why the murder had to be so brutal, especially as the killer did not have a personal rage-filled motive and did it for money? imo.

Man who helped mastermind slaying of Irene White offered her killer €25k
"Detective Sergeant Mick Sheridan told prosecutor Sean Gillane SC that Power was a “broken man” when he arrived at the garda station to confess to asking Lambe to murder Ms White on behalf of a third man.

In an emotional address to the court, Irene White’s daughter Jennifer McBride said: “This time around it is even harder than the first as the man who stands before the court, Niall Power, is not a stranger to our family but is in fact a person who was at one time a close family friend and would have not only been trusted but also welcomed into our home, not only by myself and my siblings but by our Mam.
“Because of this connection it brings a deeper level of pain and shock and hurt.”

"And when arrested in January 2017, Lambe admitted to investigators he had stabbed the mum 34 times"

The two men serving prison sentences for their part in the killing of Dundalk woman Irene White at her home at Ice House on the Demesne Road in April 2005 have told Gardaí they do not intend to testify against the man who they say ordered the contract-style killing.

According to a report in The Sunday Times yesterday, Niall Power and Anthony Lambe, who are both serving life sentences for the murder, have told detectives they do not want to give evidence over fears they will be labelled as informers within the prison system. The two had previously offered to testify against a man who Gardaí believe organised the murder.

Gardaí are still trying to convince the two prisoners to co-operate, but they are also examining the possibility of treating the killers as hostile witnesses at a trial.

Those investigating the brutal killing are actively pursuing murder charges against a local businessman who they believe ordered the killing.

THE man suspected by cops of orchestrating the brutal murder of mum Irene White approached a garda at the time of the killing. The Irish Sun can reveal that he asked the officer directions when he made the approach in Co Dublin as part of his alibi.[...] Gardai also believe he made the approach in a CCTV camera’s range in his efforts to prove he was innocent.[...] It’s understood a ruling on whether the suspect could be charged will be made in the coming weeks.

The husband of murdered woman Irene White has said he is “shocked” that gardai want to charge him over her death.

We can reveal that gardai are awaiting a decision from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) after recommending that Ms White’s husband Alan be charged in connection with her murder in her home in Dundalk on April 6, 2005.
