Case Details
Perry "Pete" Bellaire was last seen on one Pittsburgh's bridges that span the Monongahela River. It is believed that he either jumped or fell into the river and drowned.
Much of the information about Pete is anecdotal, some based on letters that have come to light. The exact date he went into the river is unknown.
His last known address was in the East Liberty neighborhood of PIttsburgh but it has been said that his hair was matted and he had lice from living in a halfway house. On the day he disappeared, the Salvation Army had shaved his head and provided him with clothing. While he was at the Salvation Army, he supposedly got into a scuffle with someone there before leaving a letter for his Aunt, discarding his clothes and jumping into the river.
His aunt and cousins lived, at the time, in West View and it is believed that the letter to the aunt was his last communication before his disappearance.
It is unknown if a missing persons report was filed in 1983.
Perry's body has never been found and he remains missing.
