Heartbreaking news from Michael Phelps (storm chaser):
The heart wrenching reality of tornadoes. I'm hearing that a missing two month old baby in Albany, GA was found alive in a dryer wrapped in blankets. The parents were killed. Their last act was saving their child.

Bless those parents, and may they rest in peace. How desperate they must have been!

The ones I posted were in south Georgia. Not sure about the northern part of the state.

I am here but thoroughly exhausted. We have been on high risk alert since Friday. The raging tornado that hit Albany yesterday afternoon was a huge 'wedge' tornado. Wedge tornadoes are uncommon and very very dangerous as they are extremely wide when touching the ground. Albany is torn apart especially on the east side. Our son is in civil service and works at the Albany Marine Base which has been heavily damaged. He has no idea when they will be able to return to work. The P&G plant in Albany suffered tremendous damage as well also a trucking company had major damage and trailers were tossed upside down like they were toys. Cooper Tire also sustained severe damage and several other large businesses on Highway 19. Many of them are totally gone even though a lot of them were brick.

The Paradise Mobile Home Park is completely gone. That is where the four victims were killed and the one little infant found alive in a dryer wrapped in a blanket. It was the last act of love by their parents before they both died.

It was the most frightening times for all of us. Several times my husband and I were in the hallway with our two fur-babies praying. Our home did not sustain damage but the rain came down at 4 inches an hour and the high winds threw things everywhere. We have roads that are washing away in our county which butts up with Albany/Dougherty County plus fallen trees and damage to some homes and businesses.

BUT on January 2nd of this year in Albany they were already devastated by straight line winds of 89 MPH. Right now there are thousands of tons of trees that have been cutup from that earlier storm yet has not been removed. There are still people without heat or power from the Jan 2nd storm and this just compounds the tragedy. I have never seen so much horrendous devastation from a tornado and I have lived in Lee County Ga most of my life and worked in Albany.

There was very little spared in the path of these horrendous tornadoes which cut across our state like raging monsters one after another.

We thank God that many were spared and are alive but are so heartbroken by the loss of life sustained in our state and over 43 injuries during Saturday and Sunday. Emergency responders are still going through all of the debris this morning looking for more victims. There are many still missing. Lets hope they left and went to a safer area.

All anyone has to do is google images of the Jan 22, 2017 tornadoes to see how much devastation these tornadoes caused. It is the only way anyone can even begin to comprehend the aftermath and what lays ahead for so many in these counties who will never be the same again.

Praying for Albany and all of the other many towns/counties affected by these horrific storms. The President called our Governor immediately and said they will do everything possible to assist all of those who have been displaced and harmed by these tornadoes.

So sad to hear and see the devastation.

Unbelievable about the baby wrapped in blankets in the dryer.

Below is my favorite site for bad weather on the way, I have been able to plan trips out to stores/cutting grass around looking at this weather map.

Take care to those in the effected areas, getting rain and winds in B'more.

Thank you so very much Spellbound. We need it badly and all of the prayers are greatly appreciated.

When the Jan. 2nd storm ravaged this area no one seemed to be able to get the national media to cover it. There was no loss of life then but the destruction to property was humongous. We are an area filled with and known for beautiful majestic tall Oaks and over 15 thousand of them were lost the first time and included businesses that were a total loss and homes as well. The children had just gone back to school last week for the first time and now this........... In total the first time around 1500 homes and businesses were affected but even it cant begin to compare to what we experienced yesterday around 3:30 pm.

One of our friend's neighborhoods was hit hard. Their 28 ft. boat was lifted off of the trailer and thrown into their pool. Their home sustained damage but thank God they were able to ride it out without getting hurt. So so many weren't that lucky.

It hit in an area on the east side where so many work at very good paying jobs. No one knows at the moment when they will be able to return to work. It could take months and that will devastate the economy.

Albany and surrounding counties have had their unfair share of natural disasters. In July 1994 Albany, Lee County, and several counties surrounding them were in the 1994 500 year flood. Many lost their lives then too and property damages throughout those counties were horrendous. The Flint River separates east Albany from the other parts of Albany and for weeks they may have well been on an island since the Flint River bridge that connected them was under water for weeks on end. It took all of those counties years to overcome. Even today some areas still lay bare and vacant where no one ever built back. Countless beautiful homes were underwater over the roof and were all destroyed.

But Albany and surrounding areas have very strong good people in them and already everyone is joining together to help those in need. I am collecting hygiene products, clothing, canned foods and everything else my friends/families and I can think of they may need. They have such a long way to go this will have to be done on a regular basis for months. We will deliver everything to the Albany Civic Center where it will be given out to families. Once again, it warms my heart how so many people have stepped up wanting to help.

Even when they were first hit in January everyone here came together to help each other and have put in tireless free hours for weeks now and they will continue now that we have been dealt another blow. I have no doubt about that. The Marine base here has always been so supportive in any disaster but they themselves have been hit hard this time and need help themselves. There are many gas leaks from erupted gas lines and power lines are all intertwined in the tornado's path of destruction.

We have a very long way to go but we will get there no matter how long it takes. We are the type of people, no matter the races, we come together as one when we are needed. I am very proud of the way we all offer comfort and help our neighbors who needs us.

Praying for Albany and for all of SW Georgia!
