- A missing woman who was believed to be with a scam artist has been found dead in Georgia, according to police.

Janice Fulton, 74, was found dead inside her accused killer's car in Georgia, according to the Jacksonville Sheriff's Office.

JSO said Fulton is believed to have been murdered in Jacksonville.

Fulton’s body was found underneath a tarp in the back seat of the Kia driven by Smith during a traffic stop in Henry County near Atlanta about 10 p.m. after police there were told to be on the lookout for the vehicle, according to an incident report.

Smith was taken into custody on marijuana possession and open container charges after officers found marijuana and an open bottle of rum inside the vehicle along with a knife tucked inside a backpack on the passenger seat...

Smith was released in May from prison following his 2012 convictions in Bay County on charges of burglary and exploitation of the elderly, according to the Florida Department of Corrections.

A man accused in the death of a 74-year-old woman was extradited back to Jacksonville on Tuesday.

Phillip Jason Smith, 37, was booked into the Duval County Jail just after 6 p.m. Tuesday on a charge of murder, according to jail records...

There’s no word on a motive or cause of death, although police in Georgia reported Fulton had multiple blunt-force injuries. Jacksonville police believe Fulton was killed in Jacksonville before Smith headed north.

A Jacksonville man has been sentenced to life in prison after pleading guilty to the death of his 74-year-old aunt whose beaten body was found under a tarp in her stolen car he was driving in Henry County, Ga., according to the State Attorney’s Office.

Phillip Jason Smith, 39, pleaded guilty Wednesday to first-degree murder, the State Attorney’s Office said.
