Man pleads guilty to '92 murder/rape in hours prior to Hurricane Andrew
Wisconsin inmate pleads guilty to 1992 mother-daughter murders
WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. - A Wisconsin inmate pleaded guilty Monday to raping and killing a woman and her daughter in the hours before Hurricane Andrew struck 13 years ago.
James Anthony Frederick, 46, pleaded guilty to two counts of first-degree murder with a firearm and was sentenced to two consecutive life terms. In exchange, prosecutors dropped additional charges of sexual battery, burglary, kidnapping and grand theft.
DNA evidence from a hair found at the murder scene linked Frederick to the shooting deaths of Rita Bado, 41, and her 20-year-old daughter Lisa, investigators said. Frederick was not indicted in the Bado killings until April 2003, after new DNA testing procedures were developed.
The women were killed at their Lantana apartment Aug. 21, 1992, but the immediate investigation was severely hampered by Andrew's destructive swath across South Florida.
