A protest at UC Berkeley turned fiery and violent Wednesday night, shutting down a scheduled speech by right-wing provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.
The ********* News editor was set to deliver a speech inside a UC Berkeley campus building but hundreds of protesters began throwing fireworks and pulling down the metal barricades police set up to keep people from rushing into the building. Windows were smashed and fires were set outside the building as masked protesters stormed it, and at 6 p.m., one hour before his scheduled speech was to begin, police decided to evacuate Yiannopoulos for his own safety.
The Berkeley Police Department said people threw bricks, smoking objects, and fireworks at police officers. University police locked down all buildings and ordered a shelter in place, and later fired rubber pellets into the crowd of protesters who defied orders to leave the area.

They threw fireworks at the officers? Isn't that assault. That is dangerous.
 
I thought Universities were about Free speech? They don't like what this guy was going to say so they set the place on fire and throw bricks at the police?
 
I get two sides to a story-- Berkley is pretty liberal - who on earth would schedule something like this with all the protests going on around the world now - like how would they think , at liberal university he would be a boxoffice hit??

Yiannopoulos' visit to Berkeley was sponsored by the campus Republican club. The university has stressed it did not invite him and does not endorse his ideas but is committed to free speech and rejected calls to cancel the event.​

BCR invited Yiannopoulos to visit the campus as part of his 18-stop tour across U.S. colleges. His impending visit has generated controversy across the campus community given his straightforwardness and extreme conservative views. UCPD has determined the $10,000 to be a rough assessment of the costs of security, according to campus spokesperson Dan Mogulof.

A man was shot and wounded at protests outside his Jan. 21 talk at the University of Washington.
Rowdy protests at UC Davis Jan. 13 prompted campus Republicans to cancel his appearance at the last minute. His final stop was supposed to be UCLA on Thursday but the invitation was rescinded, making Berkeley his grand finale.

I am having a hard time determining that also! The feed I was watching ended like 5 minutes ago only cause of battery power.
At that point they were still going

There is some irony here in that the MLK facility was smashed
 
The dude talked earlier he is saying how colleges across america will react tomm and citizens will be unwilling to fund higher education?
