Below are links for information on Kelli Ann Cox. This young woman disappeared from my area in 1997. She left behind a 1-1/2 year old daughter. She was touring the Denton County Jail, I believe, with her college class, and afterwards, when she went to her car, she was locked out. She called her boyfriend and that is the last anyone has seen/heard of her. Her parents are raising her daughter, and they are desperate for information as to what happened to Kelli.

The second link has age-progressed photographs. She is a beautiful girl and she needs to come home to her family. It sounds like her family is doing an awesome job of raising her daughter, but how sad that no one knows what happened.

I had the distinct pleasure of spending the day with Kelli's parents and her daughter while I was home in Texas. Unfortunately, they were not able to attend Missing Persons Day this year, but now that Kelly Jolkowski and I are networking Kelli's case, I think they might try and come next year. Special thanks to Monica for making this meeting possible. :blowkiss:

A lot is starting to happen now, with the mailer and responses to the applications on the national and international sites. Please pray for Kelli. Pray for those who search for her and especially for her family who love and miss her so very much.

If anyone wants to help with the mailing, please contact Kelly Jolkowski or myself and we will zap that to you right away. For those already on the list for updates on the missing, thank you so much. You are the reason the mailers are so successful.

With love and hope, Lanie

Blessings to all, especially to AR and A2 (Lady Bug hugs)

I met the Bynums in October 2002 at the Texas Caucus for Missing and Exploited Children. They brought their granddaughter with them. (Kelli's daughter) It's very sad to see her grow up without a mom, but at least she has loving grandgarents.

The caucus is documented here: http://rachelcookesearch.org/texasconf.html

I live about 30 minutes from the area from where Kelli went missing. I remember reading about it in the paper at the time. The paper runs articles on Kelli and her family from time to time. I have not heard of any leads or suspects. Seems like she just disappeared without a trace.

IMO

Today marks seven years since Kelli Ann Cox disappeared.

Please light a candle for Kelli and whisper a prayer for her family as they deal with this terrible anniversary. They have been doing interviews all week ahead of time, in response to recent media on her case. This will be a hard day. Pray for them to get answers, and soon.

Please leave a note on her guest book, scroll to the bottom of the page and fill out the form and hit send, and thanks. A kind word goes a long way in the hearts of a family so broken.

Thanks Lanie for the new links. My heart breaks for Alexis to grow up not knowing what happened to her Mother. I will pray for Kelli's family and hope that they will find Kelli.

I searched the cold case forum and didn't see this case so I'm adding it.

Kelli Ann Cox was a student at the University Of North Texas in Denton, Texas in 1997. She resided with her parents and her young daughter, Alexis, in Farmers Branch, Texas. Cox attended her morning classes on July 15, 1997, and took a field trip with her criminal justice class to the Denton Police Department. She drove her 1989 Nissan 240-SX to the facility and parked her car in a nearby lot. Cox was not allowed to bring her purse or keys into the facility and she locked her belongings inside of her vehicle. She planned to use a spare key hidden under the vehicle's fender to open the car after the tour.

Kelli discovered that her spare key did not work after the tour dismissed. She walked back to the police department and attempted to call her boyfriend, Lawrence Harris III. Cox was unable to reach him for unclear reasons and officers directed her to a pay phone two blocks away. She reached Harris from the telephone outside of the Conoco gas station and convenience store near East McKinney Street and Railroad Avenue

Harris arrived at the police department between 12:30 PM - 12:45 PM. He discovered Cox's car abandoned inside the parking lot. There was no indication of her in the area and she has never been heard from again. Cox was wearing a black shirt, jeans and sandals at the time of her disappearance. No witnesses observed her departure from outside the Conoco station.

Cox left all of her personal belongings behind at her family's residence, including $200 in cash. There has not been any activity within her bank account, which held approximately $1000 in July 1997. Cox's mother said that her daughter was devoted to Alexis and would never leave her behind willingly. Cox was raising the child on her own after ending her relationship with Alexis' father. Cox's parents have since taken custody of the child.

She was last seen wearing a black shirt, blue jeans, and sandals.

I am familiar with this area and around noon on a weekday, this is a very busy area. The parking lot is across the street from the building that houses the police station. There were all kind of rumors at the time. I remember the guys at our office, about two or three blocks away, wouldn't let women walk to our cars alone or take smoke breaks alone. We found about her disappeance from her parents, who came into the paper office one day with a flier. I haven't heard of any updates.

"Kelli was born November 12, 1976 at Baylor Hospital in Dallas, Texas. . ."

"21-year-old woman was airlifted to a Dayton hospital Tuesday after being trapped beneath a stack of cardboard cases at Victory Wholesale Grocers, 400 Victory Lane.

Kelli Cox, no address available, was in fair condition Tuesday afternoon at Miami Valley Hospital."

The age is about right considering the birthdate.

I agree with what Kelli's family said at the time and has continued to believe: That she wouldn't have gone off on her own and never contacted any of them. She had nothing on her person at the time; she'd left it all in her car for the police station tour.

I have often wondered how someone was able to abduct her without no one seeing anything. There was some debate about whether she was taken from the gas station or in the parking lot.

I know it won't do anyone any good, but it just makes me so mad that the police didn't have lockers or some kind of storage for these kids' keys - what in the heck were they supposed to do? And I don't understand what happened when she was was unable to reach her boyfriend via phone from the police department for "unclear reasons" and was directed to a pay phone a few blocks away. Did they only allow her to make one phone call or was there a problem with the phone at the police dept or something? It just seems so wrong that her disappearance is so closely linked to her trip to the police department. Could someone associated with the police department be involved in her disappearance?

More likely it was someone who was there to visit someone else at the facility or who was there to straighten out their own legal problem or someone who was with someone who went in to straighten out a legal problem.
