He's 26??

Trooper Thorns is in southern Berks County. Mohnton/Shillington area.

This is very concerning, from his FB page from last August :(.

(Commenting on the suicide of his friend Bill)

Behind the comforting facade of psychiatric medication is a world of agonizing withdrawal, disability, and death. The physical and mental torture that one must endure to free themselves from a benzodiazepine is beyond description. On far too many occasions I have feared that my own healing journey might end the same way Bill's just did. I may lose a few friends as a result of this post. That's okay. Because if even one of you reads this and thinks twice before putting one of these vile poisons into your body, it was well worth it. Rest easy, Bill. Your suffering is over. Your voice is now mine and it will not be silenced until this madness stops. If anyone reading this is taking Xanax, Ativan, Klonopin, or Valium and would like more information about benzodiazepine withdrawal, please send me a private message.

Good work. This guy seems brilliant, creative, insightful maybe a bit sensitive. Of course IMO just getting to know him.

His sister is posting, asking for volunteers to help search for him today. Apparently LE is not helping much :(. She also posted that her texts to him are not being delivered (she's getting a "not delivered" message) and others have said that probably means his phone, wherever it is, has no signal. If he was on foot, the only logical conclusion (to me, my opinion) in that area is that the phone is under water. His last known whereabouts were not in an area with bad cell reception at all.

Reading the sister's posts is heartbreaking. :(

I have become fond of Brad in the past few days. He is much loved by his family.
I am rooting for him as hard as I can.

I actually ran a race there. They had the registration and award ceremony at Trooper Thorns. There's a rail trail right out the back. If I recalled correctly, the river was right there too. Fairly populated area. I know nothing of the bar and crowd on normal nights. The night I was there was mostly 20 something runners.

Hey y'all, first time poster here. Thought I'd add some insight as I grew up/frequented the area where he went missing.
First of all, that area is pretty shady. There's a diner a little farther down that same road named Queen City, which has seen its fair share of crime. There's also a long trail behind the bar called the Thun Trail, also known as the Schuylkill River Trail. It's around 18 miles in length between Reading and Pottstown (I believe?). It's a nice trail but has had its fair share of crimes in the past 5-10 years, especially in the area near Reading (where Brad went missing).
My dad and sister run the trail from time to time. My sister had actually been running the trail alone (no bueno!!) the day after Brad went missing. She mentioned that a policeman approached her after her run, asking about whether or not she had seen any bodies or individuals in distress on the trail.

As the previous poster mentioned, Trooper Thorns sponsors a 5k race every third Thursday called "Third Thirsty Thursday". I've run it previously. The place gets swamped. Since Brad went missing on a Tuesday, there definitely wasn't a race that day and I doubt they were even doing it for the month of Feb because of the weather.
Tuesday nights at Thorns probably would have been fairly quiet. My dad used to be there all the time; he said there might have been a small-ish dinner crowd on a Tuesday night, but it likely would not have been packed. The type of people that are often hanging out there are college kids from Alvernia and middle-aged people from the area. It gets pretty caucasian in there. My family used to go there for dinner from time to time, and of course would attend their St. Patty's events. I wouldn't say it's a dangerous bar to hang out.

Also in the area of where Brad went missing: Angelica Park. It used to be run down and gross but Alvernia University had been revamping it when I moved out of town. There's a creek in there and honestly, I've never visited cause it weirded me out. I'm not even sure I've seen people at it before, haha.
There's also the Schuylkill River on the other side of the Thun Trail and Highway 422.
Brad's sister mentioned that her phone messages weren't being delivered. Perhaps the phone had been thrown into the Schuylkill River or Angelica Creek, but honestly I would not at all be surprised if it had to do with phone service. When you continue south on Morgantown Rd/Rt 10, it gets wooded pretty quickly.

I also just want to be clear that Reading is a really shady city. It used to be okay when my family and I had first moved there in 1997, but the crime has progressively gotten worse and moved outside of the city. As a girl, I wouldn't want to be walking alone near Thorns at dusk, and definitely wouldnt get any closer to the bridge or the city. There's a lot of drug crime in the city itself, and it's very poor.
That being said, Brad seemed like a normal-sized guy to me, although pretty quiet-spirited and kind. I find it hard to believe that someone could have kidnapped him very easily off of the side of a fairly busy road. At 6:30pm there would have been plenty of people driving by Thorns.

Oh and as an aside, I know Brad from high school band. I wasn't personally super close with him, but we both were in the brass section together and were friends with the same people. I feel like we also had Chemistry class together but I'm not sure. It makes me so sad to think he could have gone missing against his will. He was a really kind guy when i knew him.

Just thought of something else-- there's a Hookah Lounge between Trooper Thorns and the car rental place. It's on the same side of the street. It's called the Pillar: http://www.pillarlounge.com/
The crowd there was generally kids from Governor Mifflin. I used to go there all the time and would not at all be surprised if Brad had walked there from Thorns. It was one of the few places in the area where Mifflin kids could go and hang out and not feel judged. Just chill. They sell pizza rolls as refreshment and have plenty of Gamecubes set up for entertainment. I feel like kids from my graduation year (2009) wouldn't be hanging out there as much, but in the past (between 2009-2012) I've seen fellow bandmates/friends of Brad at the lounge.

If yall dont mind, does anyone have the last name of the friend of Brad's who committed suicide? There were one or two Bills in brass in band so I have a feeling it might have been one of them.

I kinda have to disagree with the specific area of Trooper Thorns (or Queen City Diner) being shady--relatively speaking I guess. The city of Reading at night, a definite yes. (Not to be confused with Penn Avenue in West Reading which is safer). But Trooper Thorns is not IN the city of Reading even if it's close-by (you have to cross a bridge to get to the actual city). Lots of college kids go to Trooper Thorns. The Thun Trail, I would definitely agree is unsafe and would never, ever embark upon it unarmed even in broad daylight. And never alone.

I'm more concerned with the proximity of the Schuylkill River in this case, and the ease at which it would be possible to do something intentional to yourself :(.

Thanks for all the local knowledge. I'm from the Allentown area, but happened to be there for one of those races. PCS does a great job. I didn't get a dangerous vibe from the area, but I've been to very shady areas. That said, it also isn't some nice upscale place either. The water or even some of the wooded areas around along the trail definitely concern me, especially with a distraught person.

I'm pretty sure Tuesday would've been warm. Now, it is cold in the region. How much snow fell down there yesterday? We got a few inches up here.

Hi..the temperature is about 29°F right now in Reading and windy! Wednesday night we only got a little over 2inch of snow. The missing poster says he was last seen in a hoodie. 😕
