UK - Anjelica Halwood, 74, robbed & killed by twin grandsons, 28 Jan 2005
Party twins 'killed granny'
TWIN brothers sneaked out of their 18th birthday party to rob and kill their grandmother, a court heard yesterday. Robert Maskell and Jonathan broke into Anjelica Hallwood’s home, the Old Bailey was told.
The pair thought she had thousands of pounds, it is claimed. They are said to have ransacked the 74-year-old widow’s house while their 19-year-old pal Dwane Johnston, who had just been released from jail, punched then strangled her.
The three tried to spend her savings on mobile phones — but the stolen cash was out-of-date currency, it was said.
Jurors heard that the Maskell brothers had been celebrating their 18th birthday at their home in Edmonton, North London, on January 28.
At about 11pm they left to meet Johnston, who was going out with Mrs Hallwood’s granddaughter. The three teenagers are said to have ransacked Mrs Hallwood’s home and killed her in the struggle, then made off with her cash.
They later bought a kebab and returned to the party. Johnston allegedly told police he climbed in through an upstairs window, let the twins in and then attacked the gran.
