A suspect in a violent sexual assault in the city’s west end in 2015 may have struck again, this time in Collingwood.

The Toronto Police Service and Ontario Provincial Police have begun a joint investigation into two sexual assaults, one which took place in Toronto in the summer of 2015 and another which took place in Collingwood in the early hours of New Year’s Day.

The Toronto assault, which has never been solved, took place near Dufferin Street and Rogers Road on July 28, 2015.
The Collingwood assault, meanwhile, took place at around 1:20 a.m. on Jan. 1 of this year. Police with the Collingwood OPP detachment have said that a female victim was pulled into a vehicle by a man and sexually assaulted.
The suspect was driving a 2005-2010 four-door silver/gray or tan sedan with black steel rims, according to police.
The suspect descriptions in the two sexual assaults are similar.

Thinking this is the assault that occurred in Toronto in 2015, this composite of suspect was released at that time.
speculation, imo.

My first thought on this perp is, how is he managing to keep his victims quiet? Very concerning.

The first victim (Toronto) got off a bus and was walking home - so the area does not strike me as remote but somewhat populated.

No location is given for the Collingwood victim, but cannot visualize a location where a scream would not be heard, especially on New Years Eve. The population in Collingwood doubles, maybe triples, on weekends and holidays - the base population is 20K or so.

Hoping this guy is found sooner rather than later.

Thanks for that Collingwood location dotr - heavily populated, heavy traffic with homes extremely close together.

This guy seems to be using an extreme threat and preying on strangers of opportunity. This one will be tough for LE.

Bumping.

Ontario provincial police and Toronto police are searching for a man wanted in connection with two sexual assaults — one in Toronto two years ago, and another in Collingwood last year.

Police say around 1:20 a.m. on New Year’s Day in 2017, a 17-year-old woman was walking in a residential area near Birch Street and Second Street in Collingwood when she was forced into a vehicle and assaulted.
Police believe it’s the same suspect who attacked a 23-year-old woman on July 26, 2015, near Rogers Doad and Dufferin Street in Toronto.

Man linked to 3 sexual assaults in Toronto, Collingwood ‘escalating in violence,’ police say
“I believe he is escalating in violence,” Supt. Pauline Gray told reporters at a news conference on Thursday. “Participate in getting this guy off the streets before he attacks another woman walking home.”

She said the injury he sustained to his eye may be the key to catching him.

"Turn your mind to those people who work in offices, ophthalmologist offices, urgent care clinics, somebody who is an intake worker at one of these places and remembers him coming in to seek some sort of care for his eye," she said.

She also urged anyone who may know someone who fits the description of the suspect to contact police.

"People who perpetrate this do not do it openly. It is not something they telegraph. It is not something document. It is not something that they tell their best friend. It is perfectly normal to be shocked and wonder, ‘How didn’t I know?’ But I implore upon them to not discount it. Don’t think, ‘Not him,'" Gray said.

"It can be anybody. It can be your next-door neighbour. It can unfortunately be your son. It can be your boyfriend."

Gray called the suspect’s attacks “opportunistic” and said she believes there are other victims who have not yet come forward.

“He is looking for young women walking on their own,” she said.

“We wanted to make people aware that this gentleman, and I use that term loosely, is out there.”

Police make arrest after allegedly linking DNA from 4 sex assaults to same suspect

Patelcropped.jpg

Dipesh Patel, 34, of Toronto, is facing a slew of charges including sexual assault, forcible confinement, robbery, extortion and threatening death. HANDOUT/Toronto Police Service

"Toronto police have made an arrest after allegedly linking a suspect’s DNA to four separate sex assaults that took place in Toronto and Collingwood over a four-year period.

Dipesh Patel, 34, of Toronto, is facing a slew of charges including sexual assault, forcible confinement, robbery, extortion and threatening death, among others.

He made a brief court appearance on Tuesday morning."

"A third incident took place on July 15, 2019. Police say a 28-year-old woman ordered a vehicle to the Lake Shore Boulevard West and Strachan Avenue area using a rideshare app, and was picked up by the suspect who pretended he was her driver.

“She got into the vehicle asking if it was her rideshare and the driver led her to believe he was in fact her driver,” Supt. Pauline Gray said at the time.

Police say the suspect drove her to a parking lot near Jane Street and Eglinton Avenue where he sexually assaulted and threatened her.

The same suspect was arrested and charged with sexual assault in November 2019 after a 22-year-old woman said she was at Rebel Nightclub on Polson Pier and lost consciousness before waking up inside a vehicle allegedly being driven by Patel."
