811x456

A 30 year-old woman from Arizona vanished over the weekend after presumably going to Sunset Cliffs to photograph a sunrise, family and*San Diego police*said.*

Amanda Cruse’s vehicle was traced to the Sunset Cliffs area Tuesday, her brother-in-law said.

Her cellphone was tracked down using an iPhone app, which led police to her parked vehicle on Monroe Avenue near Sunset Cliffs Boulevard.

Also inside the vehicle were her purse and backpack, found concealed under clothing.

With only her high-quality digital camera missing, and considering the time she left her hotel, it’s likely Cruse went to Sunset Cliffs to snap photos of the sunrise, family and police said.

Her family fears she may have slipped off a bluff and drowned in the ocean, but they aren’t ruling out other possibilities.

I'm very worried about her.

This does not sound good. It's easy to get caught up on a shot and lose balance .

Can anyone get to the areas below to search for her?

concealed purse and bag - sounds just like something a lot of people would do if there were staying sorta close but didn't want to carry stuff. Very worrisome. And discouraging because I heard nothing on this morning's news about her and I am in Arizona.

If I recall correctly it's pretty much an ocean drop.. high tides around 7am and 8 pm.:(

A couple of oddities about the theory that she went to Sunset Cliffs to watch the sunrise:

First, she left at 4:30 AM but the most beautiful part of the sunrise that day was a little after 6AM. At 4:30 AM, it is still pitch black out there.

Also, the sunrise is in the East, but these cliffs look west over the ocean. It's a great spot for a sunset (hence the name, Sunset Cliffs). Not sure why you would go there to photograph the sunrise.

Unsure if she was into photography but if she was 4:30 is the norm to head out ( published landscape photographer) ... sunrise is beautiful in that area as well. She may have just been taking ocean and cliff shots. Morning would be best to do that. Basically leave hotel at 4:30, grab coffee, arrive to scouted area by 5-5:15, shoot that area first then go to second close location to shoot more. HTH

Duh, wow, I did not even think about this. Good thing I am not an investigator, jeez. Oh course, the sun rises in the east.

Also, I can find nothing in local media here about her. Time for someone to make some calls.

Traveling alone - something I love to do, but it worries so many people... I hope she is found safe soon.

Can anyone get to the areas below to search for her?

Very frequent place of falls, injuries, and unfortunately deaths.

Steep drop offs and lots of people who don't obey signs to stay back from the edges and get swept in or fall in. :(

Many rescues have to happen there (certain times of year we'll have a few a day/night there!)

I listened to this one the other day:

So some of that area has actually just been accessed by rescuers (but if someone was swept down days earlier that'd be a moot point likely by now unfortunately :(

You can see from this 7 am photo Sunday morning what the weather was like even at that point - cool, overcast, drizzly, not very conducive for much real color facing west hoping for any sunrise reflection unfortunately :(

And as you can see, between our weather and particularly rough surf, it's tough goings if someone is swept in b/c you've got all the rocks there.

We've also had a lot more rip tide warnings and then general advisories to avoid the coastal waters for 72 hours after the rain because of pollutants, etc. http://timesofsandiego.com/life/201...utes-coastal-water-prompting-health-advisory/ Not that people always obey it, but...

All that to say a really especially unideal time for someone to have potentially fallen into the water anywhere, but Sunset Cliffs, especially, is a hard place :(

I think that's a bizarre area to go for SUNRISE pictures. Sunset would make more sense.

I do want to throw out that there's a university at that location. Point Loma University, which is a church of the Nazarene school. My father went there and I was accepted to school there as well. The cafeteria looks out over the cliffs. The campus is absolutely magnificent. What if she met somewhere there from the school? Or someone from the university (student, staff, delivery) saw an opportunity to abduct her? Not saying this is likely. I think it is more likely that she fell off the cliff. Either way it's devastating and I hope her family finds some kind of closure and peace.

So I wonder where this story came from that she went to photograph the sunrise? It isn't like LE to speculate to the media...

I also thought of a possible abduction actually. Or a suicide. Besides the most obvious, an accident, which is most likely to me.

Whatever it is I don't think this case is going to have a good ending sadly.

The article says she traveled to San Diego alone, and was spotted leaving the hotel at 4:30 am on hotel surveillance. She may have decided to walk farther than just the sunset cliffs as shown below. Did they even do an arial search of the cliffs up and down the coast for 1/4 mile each way to at least look for her? From Google Earth, there are many accessible, albeit dangerous viewpoints and cars parked everywhere.
