Blaine Hector was last seen on Christmas Eve 2001, running into the woods behind his father`s house. Relatives say he was there to show his father a used car he was interested in buying, but the owner of the auto dealership called police and reported the car stolen. When Hector saw the officer pull up to the house, he took off and hasn`t been seen since.

``The next day's Christmas. He's got two kids. He'd been a stay-at-home dad with two kids," he said. ``We expected the next day we'd be picking him up or he'd be calling."
The search continued the next day. In the spring, authorities flew over the area in a helicopter ``to see if we could see anything that would indicate there was a body or a camp or something up in the woods," Hackett said.
When he vanished, Hector was 30, married, and living in Milford. His wife has since divorced him on grounds of abandonment. His father died two years ago, not knowing the fate of his son.
But his mother, Freda Washburn of Canaan, is certain that he is alive.
``He's out there somewhere," she said. ``For some reason, he doesn't want to be found as yet."
Relatives say Hector, the youngest of three sons, was deeply affected by the death of his brother, New Hampshire National Guard Specialist Wade Hector, who died in truck accident in Saudi Arabia in 1991. After his brother's death, he suffered from depression and dropped out of college.

What a horror, Blaine's mom lost one son in 1991, the other went missing in 2001 and there are still no answers.

Maybe it's just me but I've read about so many cases where the MPs were last seen running into the woods.

I had a look at Cornish, NH, on Google Maps and there is Cornish State Wildlife Management Area, looks pretty big. Also the Connecticut River right next to it.

The warrant must have put even more pressure on him who was already battling depression.

Bumping up for Blaine and his family.

Blaine Hector – The Charley Project

Since Hector's disappearance, there has been no activity on his bank accounts or Social Security number. His family believes he could be living in another country, possibly Canada, which would explain the lack of any paper trail.

I hope that this is true versus other theories. It sounds like he was really suffering emotionally.
And I really feel for his family.

Does anyone have any updates? Prayers for him and his family.

Details of Disappearance

Hector was last seen on December 24, 2001 at his father's home in Cornish, New Hampshire. He had taken a used Saab from an auto dealership to show it to his father, who was interested in buying it.

The dealership's owner reported the vehicle as stolen and the police went to Hector's father's house to question him. When Hector saw the police car pull up outside the residence, he ran out behind the house and into the woods.

An extensive search of the area turned up no indication of Hector's whereabouts. His family described him an accomplished outdoorsman with good wilderness survival skills. He has never been heard from again.

Hector was married and the stay-at-home father of two children at the time of his disappearance, and was viewed as a devoted parent. His family stated he became depressed after his brother died in a truck accident in Saudi Arabia during the Persian Gulf War.
Hector was attending Norwich University in Vermont at the time and was also in the New Hampshire National Guard, but but he dropped out after his brother's death. He told his mother he had gone to a doctor about his depression, but he was dissatisfied and left in the middle of the first session.

After his disappearance, Hector's wife divorced him on the grounds of abandonment. When his father died of cancer in 2004, the police staked out the funeral to see if Hector would attend. He never showed up.
Since Hector's disappearance, there has been no activity on his bank accounts or Social Security number. His family believes he could be living in another country, possibly Canada, which would explain the lack of any paper trail.

There is a warrant out for his arrest, but authorities are not sure if he went into hiding to avoid the police. The circumstances surrounding his disappearance are unclear.
