I'm trying to understand the events preceding the shooting. From what I gather, 2 or 3 vehicles were racing down the road (a possible chase/drag race). The white Pontiac Grand Prix ran a red light and was hit by a Honda driven by De'Maree's mother. A third car (now sought by LE) arrived on the scene and began firing at the Honda.

This is total conjecture, but I wonder if the shooter wasn't racing the first car but chasing it. Poor De'Maree & her mother accidentally got in the shooters way of catching the first car and the shooter took out his anger at being stopped on them. That makes more sense to me than someone shooting a stranger over an interrupted road race, though weirder stuff had happened for sure.

These road rage stories scare the pants off me. One missed turn signal or impatient driver behind you in the turn lane & suddenly none of the rules of sane and normal society apply.

Yes, LE is leaning toward it being a chase; the cars involved were driving down the road at a high rate of speed. But, what is particularly odd to me is that the car that apparently was being chased is the one that ran into the car driven by Toyia Thomas (De'Maree's mother), and then one of the other cars drove up to the collision and shot at Thomas' car. I did read that the driver of the Pontiac fled the scene. Did the drivers of the pursuing car(s) blame Thomas for allowing the driver of the Pontiac to get away? Why didn't the driver of the other car just pull over and resume the chase on foot?

That's why I left the option open of there being a drag race. I don't know if the drivers may have gotten mad at another car (though in the right of way) that "interfered" with their race. Would the Pontiac driver have fled, knowing that he would be in trouble with the law for causing an accident/disobeying a traffic signal. It would be awfully stupid to be drag racing and expect drivers who were obeying traffic laws to get out of their way. No matter how you look at it, it was very stupid and senseless.

There is video of an interview with Toyia Thomas at the link below. My heart goes out to her. There's also video of De'Maree. She seemed like a sweet, smart girl. She played the violin. I'm sure she would've gone far in life. So sad to think her life was taken away by someone whose life is worthless but who esteemed his life more important than anyone else's. JMO

De'Maree's father is interviewed in video at the link. No new information, except De'Maree's mother's surname is given as Jarmon.

Another interview with De'Maree's mother at the following link (audio not working). Her name is given as Latoyia Thomas. There's also a man interviewed at beginning with surname Thomas (De'Maree's stepdad?)

Someone who has info on this needs to have a conscience and talk to LE.

Was LE able to locate the owner of the white Pontiac whose occupant fled the scene after the crash? If someone was trying to kill him, I hope he will cooperate with LE and provide info on who was chasing him and fired the shots.

Just a thought ... if the driver of the Pontiac really was the target of a chase and had fled the scene by the time the other car arrived at the intersection, did the driver of that other car believe the Pontiac driver was hiding from him in Thomas/Jarmon's car? That might make a teensy bit more sense, presuming he didn't see where the other driver went. Still, senseless no matter how you look at it.

Gov. Greg Abbott announced Monday that his office's Criminal Justice Division offered up to $10,000 for information that helps police identify and arrest those who killed De'Maree Adkins. The original Crime Stoppers' reward was up to $5,000.

[...]

To be eligible for the rewards, tipsters must send information to Houston Crime Stoppers by calling the hotline at 713-222-8477, texting TIP610 plus the information to 274637, or submitting online at crime-stoppers.org. Tipsters can remain anonymous.

:justice: for De'Maree

Very sickening! Only a coward would do such vile things like this! :furious: :puke:

From what I have seen reported, the driver of the Pontiac that crashed left with the driver of the sedan. So it doesn't seem like one was trying to kill the other and the child got in the way. And if Pontiac was left on the scene, seems like it should be easy enough to find the owner?

That does say clearly that the driver of the Pontiac got into the dark sedan that pulled up, the dark sedan then pulled along side Thomas' car and a woman in the dark sedan began shooting.

All of the articles seem to have a different interpretation of events. A very odd case.

Latoyia Thomas said she was on her way home from getting her hair done with her 8-year-old daughter in the back seat when a senseless act took her daughter's life.

At 2 a.m. Saturday, police were called to the intersection of West Fuqua Street and Sam Houston Parkway.

It's interesting that LE declined to say whether this was gang related or not. A gang-related shooting -- that... maybe kinda? Makes the driver from car 1 hopping into car 2 before the shooting began from car 2 make slightly more sense. If only bc it would provide a solid tie between the drivers in the cars (way more so than street racing buddies, for example) and gives some context for the otherwise totally meaningless violence in this case.

ITA. But, why shoot at Thomas' car? Fear that she would report the accident? Gang members who had been drag racing and possibly had drugs stashed in their cars, plus at least one illegal weapon, certainly wouldn't want LE involved. So, maybe their intention was to scare Thomas away from the scene. At that time of the morning, there likely wasn't anyone else around. They were probably trying to figure out how to get the white car (possibly disabled from the crash) out of the intersection before it was discovered by LE or reported.

One thing's for sure, those guys who caused the crash and killed De'Maree were anything but upstanding citizens, who expected Mrs Thomas to do what any law-abiding citizen would do--contact LE to report the accident.

Could be road rage because of the collision. Wouldn't be the first time for someone to get angry over a car crush. The white car was left at the scene and apparently there were no attempts to retrieve it, so how would they expect to cover it up?
