The man authorities say is responsible for a murderous rampage Friday night laughed as he put his rifle in a bystander's mouth and pulled the trigger, police reports show. The murder weapon was found dripping with evidence of the victim's deaths.

One person survived the violence by leaping from a second-story apartment window, breaking several bones.

Detectives on Saturday were still trying to piece together what caused Sunrise resident Ralston Davis Jr., 21, to kill a woman he had known for only a month and two people he encountered at a gas station, said Veda Coleman-Wright, spokeswoman for the Broward Sheriff's Office.

By the time Davis's violent trek from Lauderhill to west of Fort Lauderdale had finished, Myosha "Mimi" Proby, 28; Carlos Jones, 26; and Ravindra Basdeo, 29, had been killed execution-style, police said. Davis has been arrested and charged with three counts of first-degree murder.

Parents of man held in Broward shootings troubled by his behavior

LAUDERHILL, Fla. -- The parents of a man charged with the execution-style slayings of three people said their son had been acting strangely in the days before the shootings.

Ralston G. Davis Jr., 21, of Sunrise, was held without bond in the Broward County Jail on three counts of first-degree murder. He was scheduled for his first court appearance on Sunday.

Before the shootings Friday night, his mother asked him to pray with her because his demeanor troubled her so much.

"To me, you don't look right in the face," Marcia Davis said she told him.

The victims were Myosha Renee Proby, 28; Carlos Jones, 26; and Ravindra Basdeo, 29, police said. Ralston Davis apparently knew Proby for a short time, but the other two were random victims, authorities said.

"What would have led him to do that?" asked his father, Ralston Davis Sr. "If evil exists and can grip human beings like that, then indeed it manifested itself in him."

If he wasn't on PCP or something like that, I wonder if he has a brain tumor or something. This is not normal behavior! His parents even say his eyes looked different.

Frightening.

Police lack motive in Friday night's slaughter of strangers in Broward

Ravindra Vishaul Basdeo was in the mood to celebrate.

The 29-year-old property appraiser from Coconut Creek was on his way to shoot pool with friends Friday and to celebrate having passed his residential appraisal certification two days earlier. But first, Basdeo stopped at an Exxon gas station.

There, Basdeo became the second victim in a triple-homicide rampage while sitting in his car. According to police reports, Ralston G. Davis Jr., of Sunrise, drove to the station in his silver Chevy Lumina and walked up to Basdeo's car, ordered him to open his window, put a rifle in his mouth and, laughing, pulled the trigger.

Davis next ordered Carlos Jones, 26, of Margate, to lie down as he left the Exxon convenience store, placed the gun at Jones' head and fired several times, according to the arrest report.

Minutes earlier, Davis had entered the Lauderhill apartment of a woman he knew, Myosha "Mimi" Proby, 28, and ordered her to the floor before shooting her several times, the report states.

From July 2013:

http://www.miamiherald.com/news/state/article1953567.html

The Supreme Court of Florida has vacated a death-penalty sentence for Ralston “Jay” Davis Jr., who instead will serve life in prison for the shooting deaths of Myosha Proby, Ravindra Basdeo and Carlos Jones.

The high court ruled that Davis, 28, of Sunrise, did not act in a “cold, calculated and premeditated manner” when he ordered Proby, 28, to her knees and fired 23 bullets from an AR-15 assault rifle into her body...

A Broward jury in 2009 convicted Davis of first-degree murder in all three cases. In 2010 the judge took the jury’s recommendation to sentence Davis to death for the murder of Proby and to life in prison for the murders of Basdeo and Jones.
