Skeletal remains found inside home in the Heights

HOUSTON - Skeletal remains were found inside a home in the Heights neighborhood on Saturday, according to the Houston Police Department.
Officers said new homeowners were moving in when they found the human remains in between the sheetrock of the kitchen.
The homeowners were putting things away in the attic and notice a loose board. When they moved the board, they discovered skeletal remains in the walls, according to officers on the scene.
Investigators had to punch a hole in the wall to remove the bones.
Neighbors tell us a previous homeowner, an older lady, was reported missing two years ago.
A Medical Examiner is working to identify the remains and determine if there was any foul play.

This may be as straight forward as former homeowner. I'm guessing being behind Sheetrock would indicate foul play.

A skeleton was found in the wall of her house in Houston. She had gone missing in 2015 and her house sold. The new owners found a skeleton inside a wall and called LE. It hasn't been confirmed to be Mary yet.

I'll see if I can find more information.

The new residents left after nightfall.

They were "a little worried because they have a body in the house," Fay said. "Was it someone who was killed and stuffed in the wall, or did they accidentally pass away by ending up in the wall?"

It's possible the person tripped in the attic and fell into the empty space, he said.

She was last seen by neighbors in February or March 2015.

I'm curious to find out how she ended up there. I could see it being an accident but after reading on WS so much I could also see foul play. It sounds like LE is being open minded.

Poor lady, assuming it's a lady, what a way to go. I'll be truly shocked if it's IDed as anyone other than Mary.

Is a home inspection required before taking ownership or just suggested or is it different by state?

Reminds me of this sad story from this past summer:

"About 16 months later, Simone’s body was found in her bed as the new owner was walking through the house after he bought it at an auction."

How bizarre that this happened more than once!

Apparently Mary's house went into foreclosure on March 3, 2015 and before the new owners moved in it was renovated. The skeleton wasn't found during renovation but when the new owners were unpacking boxes in the attic. This was all in the Houston Chronicle article. I read somewhere that police also went to the house and looked around and found nothing but I think that was on a neighborhood blog and can't find it now so is just rumor and not fact.

I hope there was no suffering either way.

Texas doesn't require home inspections by law. However some banks or insurance companies might. It would really depend on the circumstances.

Thank You, I was wondering. We had one here in GA...not sure if required but we were happy with the inspection.

Police entered her home this summer after receiving calls regarding the residence. Officers did not report finding Mary in the home at that time.
Nearby work crews have told residents that Mary is deceased and that they saw her body removed from the property. So far, both police and private investigators have been unable to substantiate this claim with any public or police records, so neighbors remain hopeful that Mary will be found alive and well.

If it isn't Mary it is someone's loved ones. Sad either way.

My credit union required one.

I wonder how long Mary lived in the house prior to receiving a foreclosure notice.

Thanks, Treelights.

Hmmm... interesting twist.

2013: Cerruti joined neighbors in speaking out against a large apartment complex; they lost the battle and the complex went up behind Cerruti’s bungalow

Wow, that little house has been surrounded. I would have protested too.
