MI - Laylah Heether, 14 mos, murdered, Big Prairie Twp, 14 Feb 2017 *Arrest*

Wayne Brown, 29, appeared before a judge on Friday, Feb. 24 for arraignment. According to jail records, Brown is charged with first degree child abuse and causing the death of Laylah Heether, Brown's step-daughter. Both charges carry possible life sentences.

According to a Facebook page called "Justice for Laylah," she died on Feb. 21 at Helen DeVos Children's Hospital in Grand Rapids. Court records show Laylah had significant injuries to her head, face and genital area. There were also signs of sexual abuse.

Police believe that the injuries to Laylah occurred at the Big Prairie Township home that Brown and her mother shared.

Her injuries - including fractures to each wrist - were at different stages of healing, court documents showed. This means the traumatic incidents occurred within a week of her death...

Doctors who examined Laylah reported that her injuries were instead "consistent with physical and sexual abuse, and were not consistent with the explanation given by Wayne Brown," court record show.
