Don't you want to crawl back into bed and stay away from society when you read something this horrific?

WHAT IS WRONG WITH SOCIETY????

Chicago police located a 15-year-old girl who had been missing from the city's West Side since Sunday. Authorities said the teen was sexually assaulted and the attack may have been documented in a Facebook Live video.

Facebook took the video down and police worked to identify several boys in the video.

Police Superintendent Eddie Johnson was "visibly upset" after he watched the video, both by its contents and the fact that there were "40 or so live viewers and no one thought to call authorities," a police spokesman said.

I saw this young lady's post in missing yesterday. horrific :(

That is unbelievable! There is something seriously wrong with a lot of people.

This is horrible. And I can't help but wonder how many of the 40 viewers recorded it before it was removed. This poor girl. Praying she gets much needed counseling. I cannot believe no one reported it. WTH is wrong with people? SMH [emoji36] [emoji202]

Facebook has since taken down the video, but she showed WGN four screen grabs that were too graphic to be broadcast or posted online. She also showed them to police superintendent Eddie Johnson as he was leaving a press conference at the Tenth district.

"She was heinously raped, beaten and abused and assaulted on tape - on FB live. So whatever picture people want to paint of her - she was a chronic runaway or whatever - nobody deserves that. No human being deserves for that to happen to them," said Reginald King, the victim's relative

"I saw her face and the look on her face was just pure fear. And I, I just want my daughter home," said Stacey [redacted].

I am no longer shocked at what people will do to others.

I constantly wonder when society became so uncaring and cruel. This poor girl, my heart truly goes out to her.

Poor girl :( SMH ! I'd love to reach out and give her a big hug :(

This, but also rape has happened forever. Technology just means we all know about it straight away and provides LE with absolute proof it occurred.

And people that would not physically do it, can watch as a voyeur, denying all moral responsibility.

It isn't a shock anymore what comes out of Chicago. Didn't they show a handicapped young guy being beaten and tortured on FB live a couple of months ago? #NotMyChicago

That's exactly what I was thinking about, the torture of that poor young disabled guy that was also recorded/broadcast over Facebook Live. Worth saying that a big group of folks raised money for him and his family after how appalled they were by the ordeal. Think a lot of the fundraising started at Reddit. Interesting to see social media used for some amount of good after it was used to heinously. I really hope Facebook or similar will look into this stuff and maybe add some sort of way to report crimes. I mean I know they have report buttons but that process is near useless and takes way too much time. Imagine if someone came up with a way, especially considering the live aspect, that these things could be reported to local law enforcement immediately. I imagine that's not impossible to do all things considered.

Guess I'm just trying to find a positive of some sort. Really twisted that teenagers are committing crimes so brazenly and showing them off on social media. I can't wrap my head around that aspect in particular. And as a rape survivor myself, that poor girl. How much worse it's got to be to know the recording happened and other were watching and did nothing. Ugh. Heartbreaking.

Just curious--how do you know the report button on FB takes a long time to get a response. I'm wondering because I knew someone who had a account on FB. Well, not sure and FB are associated, but the account asking for donations was posted on FB. I also knew this person was scamming people any way they could. The account had been up for a couple of years or so and had no activity after accumulating ~$40-50. When I saw it after googling the person's name recently, I used the report button to report it. Within minutes, I tried accessing the page again and a message came up stating the page had been closed down. That was quick!

Oh this precious child....to have endured such is unimaginable. To have it videoed and people saw it happening, knew it was happening and did nothing?? Sickening!

We have a generation that is growing up on their own, IMO. There is a lack of morals, lack of integrity, lack of self respect, lack of guidance, and way too much at their fingertips to access. Stuff that even as an adult shocks me, is available and out there. Once that seed is planted, it's either going to wither and die, or sprout and grow. All these evil things are being planted into the minds of kids without fully developed brains. It's just shocking.

Oh my god, this is horrible. That poor girl. I hope her rapists are brought to justice to the full extent of the law... couldn't this also be listed as them distributing child *advertiser censored*? She's only 15.

Did you ever get a response from Facebook because they send them. I think the automatically take pages down when they're reported (at least for certain things. I reported a pornographic video once and it was gone instantly too but then it was back) in fact in the case of that video they sent me some dumb reply first saying it was fine and two days later told me they reviewed it and it was then officially taken down. I know reports take time precisely because the replies saying what actions they took take days to appear. And there's also the option to block people and whatnot when you report or "I don't want to see this" or some such as an option which might be what blocks it from your view. Not the same as it being taken down and if it gets taken down that fast then clearly it's an automated system (actual humans are involved in monitoring content. There's some articles out there on the people who work the job in some third world country or another). So any kind of automated thing wouldn't really help as far as if a crime was being committed, you know? And for an actual person to see it, it would take time. That's the issue. And the specific nature of these live videos of corse would mean the crime is happening at that moment and I assume time is of the essence... so that reporting system just isn't up to par for dealing with crimes that are occurring. I mean it's main function is more to block pornographic content or beheadings and things like that or targeted abuse (so online bullying or cyber stalking I suppose). But I don't know much at all about the live feature. I don't go on FB much anymore. I wonder if reporting live stuff maybe moves it the front of the queue or not. I assume since they have you mark the reason you're reporting it certain things take precedence over others. Hard to say.

I just tried to find one of the two big articles I remember reading about the people who do the content monitoring for Facebook and others (basically they outsource to companies. I feel like I read a smaller article about someone doing it from the US but the big lengthy article I read definitely focused on some developing country. I feel like that one was on Buzzfeed. I even googled for that but no luck.) So there's real people at some level but it takes time for that to happen. That's the ultimate issue. Time.

I would assume you're right as far as the child *advertiser censored* thing. Would be interesting to see how it's handled in court (fingers crossed and praying they get the people responsible. I mean I assume they should be able to link the FB account that was used to someone at least). The live aspect of this is a pretty new thing so I assume a camera is a camera as far as the letter of the law but a newer variation on this technology. Ugh.

I initially thought......the facebook live feature should be removed. Who needs it anyways? Especially if crimes are going to occur live.

Then...I saw some pretty cool things from people going live on facebook. I can see the purpose of it.

That being said...if people are cruel and stupid enough to commit crimes live on facebook for the world to see....then they deserve to have that evidence be used against them. And anyone who watches a crime live on facebook without calling 911 deserves punishment too. Sad that we have to mandate doing the right thing....but I think we're there with some of the trash living in the USA.

Two suspects identified in sexual assault that was broadcast on Facebook

Chicago police have identified two of several juvenile suspects who they say participated in the sexual assault of a 15-year-old girl that was broadcast live on Facebook.

One of the suspects, a 14-year-old, was arrested Saturday and is facing felony charges of aggravated criminal sexual assault, manufacturing of child *advertiser censored* and dissemination of child *advertiser censored*. Police have not arrested the other suspect, a 15-year-old, but authorities say they expect to do so soon.
