A Brooklyn man was being questioned late Friday in the slaying of his girlfriend, a Baruch College student stabbed in the elevator of her building after a night of studying with another man, police sources said.

The victim -- whose name was not released by police because her family, believed to be overseas, had not yet been notified -- was found lying face up and had been stabbed at least 10 times in the neck and chest, police said.

A neighbor in the building, which is located in the Ocean Parkway section of Brooklyn, made the horrifying 1:05 a.m. discovery, the elevator door opening to reveal the lifeless body of the 24-year-old woman, he said.

A beautiful Russian-born student bled to death yesterday after being stabbed 10 times inside in the elevator of her Brooklyn apartment building, police said.
The body of the victim, a student at Baruch College in her early 20s, was discovered at 1 a.m. by another resident of the building on East 7th Street in Gravesend.

"I opened the elevator and this girl was just lying there," neighbor Michael Pertsov told The Post. "She was dead, so I went to the super."

The superintendent, Edward Rosado, found the victim on her back, dressed in a glittery black pullover and black ankle boots. She had a black bag and her cellphone was found next to her.

No weapon was found at the scene and apparently nothing was taken. http://www.nypost.com/news/regionalnews/59334.htm

A beautiful Russian immigrant with a head for figures and ambitions of becoming an accountant was found brutally stabbed to death in the elevator of her Brooklyn apartment building early yesterday.
Elena Kasmynina, 24, had been stabbed repeatedly in the neck and chest, cops said. Her body was found in the lift of her E. Seventh St. co-op in Homecrest.

The Baruch College honors student had finished her evening classes and taken the subway home to the apartment she had shared for the past year with Roman Pupin, 24, her boyfriend of 18 months.

Looks to me like the same case PM. The original article didn't have her name yet, so it didn't show up in a search. Let a mod know, and ask if we can combine the two threads.

Well, we got a boyfriend problem again.

That's what I was thinking. She wasn't killed in the elevator and they are searching the apartment.

Any updates?

The latest one I could find was from January, 2006. I don't think anyone has been charged yet with this horrible crime:

COPS CONTINUE HUNT FOR MURDERER: As the year comes to a close, cops from the 61st Precinct are still looking for the one who killed 24-year-old Elena Kasmynina, who was found in a pool of her own blood on the floor of a seven-story co-op at 2035 East 7th Street in Homecrest earlier this month. Police estimate that she had been stabbed upwards of ten times. Her remains were found just before 1 a.m. on December 9. Police were told by her boyfriend, Roman Pupin, also 24, that she had spent that Thursday night at class at Baruch College and said that she was on her way home just before the attack took place. Residents who lived in the building didn’t see or hear anything. When she was found, she was laying face-up. Knife wounds were peppered across her chest and body, officials said. According to published reports, cops have questioned Pupin, her boyfriend of 18 months and have let him go, believing that he has nothing to do with the crime. Residents said that the couple has just bought the studio co-op and had moved there from Staten Island. As of this writing, cops had not disclosed a motive behind the attack.
