Man on Hawaii flight subdued after he threatens INFANT. I am sorry, but I have no tolerance for those who get out of hand like this. It would be terrible to be trapped in the tight confines of an airplane with someone that's going off. Imagine how terrorized the parents of this baby were!

SNIP

Passengers and crew aboard a Northwest Airlines flight last night from Los Angeles to Honolulu overpowered an unruly passenger who threatened a sleeping baby girl, said passengers and officials yesterday.
"I was scared in the plane," said the baby's 30-year-old mother, who would only give her first name of Sheila. "With everything that's happened since Sept. 11, I was hoping that everything was changed. I'm relieved. But I don't know how I'll feel tomorrow. It was a big stress."

[font=Times New Roman, Times, serif]About 10 minutes before Flight 91 was preparing to touch down last night in Honolulu, the unidentified 37-year-old Mexican national burst toward the cockpit of the plane and was subdued by four people in the business-class section, according to passengers and the parents of the baby girl, who live in Montreal, Canada....

... The baby's 30-year-old father, who would only give his first name of Jean-Francois, said the couple and their sleeping girl were seated in Row 16 against the cabin's bulkhead when the man moved from the back of the airplane and sat down in a seat on the other side of the aisle, one row in front of them.
"He was behaving very strangely," Jean-Francois said. "Stand up. Sit down. He was not listening to the orders of the crew.

"He looked mentally affected. His mind was not all there. ... He had a (cell phone) cord in his hand. We started to be afraid of that because it could be a weapon. ... He said to the flight attendant that he wanted to kill the baby."

For the next two hours, the man kept staring at the baby. The parents said the tension in the cabin lasted for the rest of the trip across the ocean.

[font=Times New Roman, Times, serif]Flight attendants several times asked the man to move toward the back of the plane, but he refused, the parents said. At one point, Sheila, who was sitting in the aisle with the baby in her arms, switched seats with her husband.

OMG...How scary. People are nuts I swear. I would have been scared to death. I wonder if he was high on drugs. Or just plain nuts.

Maybe he wanted an extra bag of nuts and was refused! :slap:

Too bad the Federal Marshalls weren't on board.

Oh wow.. that must have been horrible for the parents. My husband would have got up and punched the guy and then probably would have been arrested too.

A good reason for pilots to have a gun in the cockpit. I wonder if a copilot had come down and pointed a gun at him, he would have moved to the back.

I think it's terrible the parents had to sit there with him staring for two hours. If he threatened the baby they should have forced him to the back. I think I read where the father wasn't happy with the way things were handled.

I would've been terrified, I can't imagine having to sit there that long. I smell a lawsuit...

Rachel my hubby would have done the same.

I wonder why the family did not insist that something be done?

I would not have sat their feeling in danger for that entire time.

Sheesh!! Do we have to not only screen people (bodily and luggage) before they get on a plane, but now we need to do a psych screen as well?!!!

so ARE there, or are there NOT federal air marshalls on every plane?? anyone know?? this is ridiculous, IT'S PRETTY OBVIOUS THERE SHOULD BE!!!

I think I would hae taken my baby as far away as possible from the creep.

Made them take him to the back of the plane or gone there myself.

Airline passenger who allegedly threatened baby faces federal charges

A passenger who became agitated and allegedly threatened to harm a baby on a flight to Honolulu faces federal charges of interfering with a flight crew. Passengers and crew members overcame Santiago Lol Tizol midway through the flight from Los Angeles late Friday and restrained him with plastic handcuffs. The 37-year-old citizen of Mexico was scheduled to appear in U.S. District Court in Honolulu on Monday. Interfering with a flight crew is a felony, and he could face up to 20 years in prison if convicted.

"The FBI takes these matters very seriously, especially in light of what happened on Sept. 11th," said FBI spokesman Brandon Simpson. "Whenever there is an incident on an airplane, there is the potential to jeopardize so many people."

Scott Ishikawa, a spokesman for the state Department of Transportation, said passengers described Tizol "acting erratically" midway through the flight.

"At one point, the man was threatening to harm another passenger's infant in the business-class section of plane," Ishikawa said. "It got to a boiling point, where some of the passengers felt they had to restrain him."

Good. I hope they keep him locked up the whole 20 years, if convicted.

I hope so too. Has anyone ever watched the show Airline on A&E? Almost every episode someone who is heavily intoxicated is trying to board a flight. It's nuts...then the people wanna make a big stink cause they can't board their flight and get where they're going. Idiots...

Yeah paradise, I love that show!

There is the British version too that takes place at Heathrow... you see all kinds of things

There aren't enough air marshals to put them on every plane, and no budget to allow them to do so (bear in mind an airport like Hartsfield, for example, handles 100s of flights, if not 1000s, a day). They are salted amongst flights, and no one knows exactly where and who and when.

Unbelievable!! WTF is wrong with people?!
