WA - Nathaniel Rosa, 31, fatally shot by homeowner, Belfair, 1 April 2017 *Arrest*

Homeowner arrested after fatally shooting intruder he found in his shower: Police

The homeowner said he arrived at the home, one of at least two that he owns in the Belfair, Washington, area, around 8 a.m. and noticed that a door had been kicked in, according to police.

The homeowner went inside and exchanged words with Rosa, who was in the shower at the time, police said. The homeowner left the premises without calling the police and returned with a firearm, police said.

"He returned home, retrieved a firearm, came back over to the residence and fired multiple rounds into the shower ... killing the intruder," Mason County Sheriff's Lt. Travis Adams told ABC affiliate KOMO.

Apparently there was an initial outcry against charging the man, but that was before full details had been made available.

The Mason County Sheriff's Office took to social media late Saturday afternoon, encouraging the public to await further information, rather than rush to judgment.

Sounds like murder to me. The alternative might have been to ask police to escort the unwanted visitor away.

Love to hear the rest of the story. You kick in the door of a strangers house to take a shower. Your confronted and have words with the homeowner. The homeowner leaves and you continue with your shower. WHAT
I understood every word you said. It was the order that you said them that has me confused.

Assuming he was naked while showering, how did he pose any sort of threat to homeowner? He should be charged with murder. What else is it?
    Just my opinion, of course.

I wonder if the two men knew each other and had an argument while the victim was in the shower, so the homeowner left and got a gun and came back and killed him, and then he had to make up a story.

Yes, it is strange. Maybe the "more to the story" aspect is that the victim was renter with some kind of occupancy right until formally evicted?

According to his Facebook, Rosa worked as a teacher's aide at Woodmoor Elementary School in Bothell - about 80 miles from where he was shot dead.
Mason County Coroner Wes Stockwell told the Kitsap Sun that Rosa had been visiting his mother who lives in nearby North Mason.

Strange situation. Why didn't he just call 911? I hope LE gets more information from the homeowner and family members.

This reminds me of a case where 3 teenagers broke into a mans home where he was waiting in the basement ready to shoot them and he did, killing 2 of them. He wasnt charged with murder.

Often it depends on the state's self defense laws in these situations, especially whether they have the Castle Doctrine. However, with this homeowner leaving the location and then coming back the self defense laws may not really apply. Also, it wasn't too clear if he actually resided at the property but it didn't seem like it. That can effect the ability to claim some defenses as well. JMO, I don't practice criminal law or hold a WA law license and haven't researched the laws at play here specifically.
