SC - Iyana Lowery, 8, Marlboro County, 5 May 2017 *Arrest*

Search underway for missing 8-year-old girl after woman found dead in Marlboro County home

Marlboro County law enforcement are asking for the public’s help in locating an 8-year-old girl who was discovered missing during the course of a death investigation.

Marlboro County Coroner Tim Brown said the body of a woman was found at the Craig Circle home at 8:30 a.m. Friday. Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon confirmed she was the mother of the missing girl.

"We are exhausting all resources to find Iyana," said Marlboro County Sheriff Charles Lemon. "If anyone knows her whereabouts or has information about her disappearance or the death investigation we are conducting at her residence, please call 911 or 843-479-5605 and ask to speak to an investigator. Please be specific about this case so it can be routed immediately."

Iyana Lowery is black, 4 feet 2 inches tall and about 100 pounds, said Lt. Jamie Seals

Officers say they found the woman’s young son, but not the little girl.
Investigators say they can’t issue an Amber Alert because they do not have information about a car that may be associated with her disappearance.

I guess we assume Mom was murdered? Though they haven't said that. Kind of the only way it makes sense....

I think it's likely. but to play devil's advocate, there are other ways that could make sense. maybe the mother died of natural causes and the older child chose to go out seeking help rather than call 911. once out of the house a number of things could happen.

I was in Bnettsville yesterday. Police, SLeD, and other officials had a house surrounded. I haven't looked yet, but I bet they got someone. I was with the FD guys, and no searches have been organized, which is sad. This town only recently got a Walmart, and it is very economically disadvantaged, but people want to help. Unfortunately, I think she is somewhere in the many areas of brush, trees, or in the Lake. No one was looking at the Lake yesterday, and that surprised me. An 8 year old is missing, FGS!!

Lemon believes the little girl was with her mother when her mother was killed.

The MCSO, SLED and FBI worked all day again on Saturday and into Sunday morning to search more areas including a home in Bennettsville. Other law enforcement agencies are scheduled to assist on Sunday with the investigation and the continued search for Iyana.

BBM, and Lemon is the Marlboro County Sheriff. This is so sad, and the longer it goes on the more I'm afraid this is going to be a double tragedy. I'm surprised this isn't getting more media attention than it is. Sweet little girl!

    SBM for space....
    Also from the above link:
"We are working as hard as we possibly can to bring a resolution to this case and find Iyana," Sheriff Lemon said. "All agencies are working 20 hour days to accomplish this. We have expertise from all around the United States collaborating to bring Iyana home. If anyone has any information, please help us and call the numbers listed above.”

I'm sure they've questioned the man they arrested to see if he knows where this little girl is. I mean did he know there were children in the home while he was murdering Mom? Did the kids hear what was happening to their Mom & run, possibly in different directions? Son was found at a neighboring home; was he questioned to see if he may know where his sister might be or if she also run away from the home out of fear?
Was the son at a friend's house before all this happened?
These missing kids always pull at my heart strings & almost always leave me with more questions than answers, but I guess if we had the answers this little girl would be found alive & somewhere safe.
And when she's found, hopefully alive, she's going to have to grieve the death of her momma, bless her little heart & her brother too. Poor kids shouldn't have to go through stuff like this ever, but especially not at this young age!
