MT - Madeline Connelly, 23, & dog Mogie, Bear Creek Trailhead, Essex, 4 May 2017

Madeline Connelly and her dog, Mogie, were last seen near the Bear Creek Trail Head near Highway 2 in Essex.

Officials say Connelly was last seen wearing baggy pants and a hoodie.

She's described as 5-foot 5-inches, weighing around 120 pounds. Mogie is a tan and white medium sized dog.

Curry says deputies located her black Subaru outback with Arizona plates, but neither Connelly or Mogie.

    still missing.

Sheriff Curry says a full-scale search was started Saturday and continued through the weekend.

North Valley Search and Rescue, deputies from the Flathead County Sheriff’s Office, Two Bear Air Rescue, and personnel from neighboring Glacier National Park are all involved in the search.

Teams found Connelly and her dog’s footprints and tracked them around 12 miles into the backcountry near Twentyfive Mile Creek before losing the prints.

Interesting that a guy is also mentioned as missing in that article after crashing a stolen car.

They have tracked her trail 12 miles so if he were with her at least up until that point they would know.

They are calling it unrelated at the moment...

Wow, 12 miles! I'm assuming she wasn't intending to hike that far, so she must have been lost and moving in the wrong direction? So scary.

I'm looking for a map of the trail.

If she is a known hiker it's not unusual for hikers to do some long day hikes. I hike and do some 6-10 mile day hikes but I'm old.

ETA - But yes getting lost is defiantly a possibility. It happens a lot even to experienced hikers.

12 miles might not be too far if she was doing a loop. However if she is 12 miles from her car and was planning an out and back then that is a long day hike.

She was visiting her uncle in Flathead County on her way to a new job in Anchorage, Alaska. She went on a hike in the area on May 4 and never returned.

"There are four groups of three people on the ground doing a grid search of the area. Also, three helicopters dropped off three different groups up on the mountain to do a top-down search. A friend of the family is with another group as well as two other groups on foot."

"They think she was heading for a cabin, which is a seven-mile hike from the trailhead," a neighbor said, reading from a family member's text. "They can see where she missed the turn for the trail to the cabin. They can see that she crossed a small stream. Her tracks and the dog's were visible just past the stream, but shortly thereafter they lost her trail.

"It shows she still has all of her stuff with her, and there is no evidence of a wild animal encounter."

Helicopters were out last night with infrared cameras searching for the woman.

Connelly was supposed to return from her hike on the end of the day Thursday.
