2017.05.11 - Former Dem Rep. Corrine Brown found guilty in charity scam

Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown has been found guilty of taking money from a charity that was purported to be giving scholarships to poor students.

The jury’s verdict on Thursday came after prosecutors accused the 70-year-old Brown of using hundreds of thousands of dollars from the One Door for Education Foundation for lavish parties, trips and shopping excursions.

That's pretty sweet! We may disagree about the significance and or reasoning for this firing. And we may disagree with one another at times politically. But I think there's no doubt that most of us want what we feel is good for the country and good for the world. Regardless of political affiliation.

One of the reasons I have avoided political threads on Websleuths is because politics has a way of really upsetting people and sometimes bringing out the worst.

I hate to say it, but I am very wary of giving to charities for this very reason.

Seems like there are very few in which the monies go to those for whom the charity is "intended" .

Trump Foundation, Hannity's Freedom Concert, Kids Wish Network, Move America Forward, etc etc.......shady shady shady.

It really sucks because there are some wonderful charity organizations out there who are legit and do some real good for those in need. But the scammers cast a pall over charities as a whole and that is a shame.

    Shame on you, Rep. Brown.

Now we wait for sentencing and to see if replacing a juror will have consequences. I hope Judge Corrigan throws the book at her. How embarrassing to be "represented" by Corrine.

How much time behind bars will Corrine Brown face? It depends on who’s counting

Former U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown’s conviction Thursday could lead to years of prison time unless there are extraordinary reasons to show her mercy.

But for Brown, of course, extraordinary is nearly standard.

I agree. It is indeed, embarassing to be represented by an amoral, opportunistic thief with no moral compass.

I feel for people who must suffer under such "leadership".

I hope she is somehow made to repay all the monies she has stolen.

In the video, defense attorney claims jury was hung before juror was dismissed. Apparently that juror was "told by God" before the trial began that CB was not guilty.
